(PAC bell just ent out of business in north america, AFAIK, they still sell their sh!tty wares in europe)

But dosent HP = Packard Bell?

No. The two Packard names have nothing to do with each other.

Hewlett Packard was formed by two engineers who invented an audio analysis tool of some sort in their garage in the late 30's, IIRC, they drew straws wether it was Packard Hewlett or Hewlett Packard. Hewlett won.

IDK the history of Packard bell, but AFAIK, the name is coincidental.

Ahh, always thought they were the same as it seemed HP became a big name in computers shorly after the name Packard Bell dissappeared 🙂

I remember having a packard bell with a P1 100mhz 😀

I can beat that. I had a Packard Bell 486DX2-66.

Edit-In fact, that was the last pre-assembled desktop computer I bought.

OMG they still exist?

Anyone remember those desktops with the intergrated monitor? Those were hell...

Powermacs? 😕

nope. They were Baby AT desktop Chassis. Fused to the top chassis cover was a standard 14" monitor. They were such a pain in the ass...

You mean this?

stylish..I wish they still made em like that....oh wait Apple still does

No, fugly. I don't want to see drives on/under/around my monitor. That's what towers are for.

As for Packard Bells, yea, NEC Japan bought them, shut down the North America branch and started selling them only in Eu. I still have mine: a P100 desktop with 24mb ram, and pair of 800mb HDs. It sports a voodoo2, sb16 ISA and 4x CDRW =D. To this day, still boots win98 and runs flawlessly.

i remember my family had a packard bell pentium 1 60Mhz...dammit those were the days of a 4MB video card and upgrading the ram from an "average" 4mb of ram to a "blazing fast in your face" 16mb of ram...

i loved the early nineties...

I had a Packard Bell computer and it was absolutely horrible. Their support was certainly nice though, always helped me by telling me to format. That was when I knew nothing about the computer at the time, but they did spend a lot of time helping me. Always mailing me new cd's when I lost it as well.

My first computer was a Packard Bell. I still have the 15 inch monitor working on another system. 800x600 is the highest res it will go without dropping to 60Hz.

First PC I had was a Packard Bell SX-33. Upgrading from the onboard graphics card wasnt actually that difficult, you just removed a jumper, I mean it was in the manual. Support however was dire, they claimed that I couldn't have done that. Idiots. Still had the beige POS in 2000, at which point my mum replaced it with a new Packard Bell, think it was Celeron based but not sure because I refused to have anything to do with it.

Packard B(H)ell name was tarnished heavily in the US, with substandard hardware and support so it's no surprise they don't want to reenter the market with the same name here.
