Where my sister lives in New York there were 3 bums on an overpass (one down laying on the ground, 2 "helping" him"). My sister stopped to see if there was anything she could do (call the cops, etc). As soon as she got out, all three bums rushed her car and tried to steal it. Luckily she wasn't too far and got in and drove off.

Crazy shit.

Never give cash. Instead tell him , okay I'll help you out, lets go to the gas station over here and I will let you get $5 worth . Then get his license plate and drivers license #.

I help out people often, like people asking for money for food outside stores. One guy said he was starving so I offered him a meal I had just bought from the deli. He refused said he didn't have anything to drink. I offered to goto the vending machine and get him something, he still said cash would be better, he didn't want to take food from me, but cash was okay . I walked off telling him then you are not hungry.

The government gives people free food. It does not give people free booze or cigs. They have to sell their food first and then use that money to buy the booze, and most of them are to lazy to set that up.

One time I was at a gas station and someone was begging like that. Thought I'd help him out thinking he needed like 5 bucks. He wanted 30?! Didn't give it to him obviously.

Some guy approached my friend and was assuring him that he was not a criminal or something and just needed some bus fare to get back on his feet. my friend turned him down and the guy then turned to me for some more pleading.

i asked him if $3 would be enough, in vietnamese. He had no response.

(yes, i would have given it to him if he did just happen to understand what i was saying )

A couple of years ago, I was sitting in my truck in a Walmart parking lot waiting for my dad to show up, we were meeting up to go out to eat somewhere that night. As I'm sitting there messing around with my phone some dude knocks on my window. I was like wtf and I was honestly a little scared and hesitant to open my window for him. So I rolled it down just enough so he can speak to me. He gives me a line about how he is from out of town, doesn't have his wallet on him, and is low on gas. He also asks me for directions, which made it seem like he was legitimately in need. I give him $5 and directions and he goes on his way. My dad pulls up a couple of minutes later and I tell him what just happened, and he says, "Son, you just got scammed." I felt like a gullible ass hole after that.

We all fall for it once, that's why they do it. Just be happy it only cost you $5 to learn the lesson that humanity cannot be trusted.

NEVER give anyone cash, if they need food buy them food. The only time I felt bad about not helping someone out was when me and a few friends were on the drink isle in our local grocery store and some 16ish year old kid asks if he can have $2 for a bus ticket, we told him no and he was it was ok and walked off. Probably the only person that actually seemed sincere, and it was only $2

I was once approached at a rest stop on I-95 by a guy who needed money to get his car fixed. He actually had an old timing belt in his hand. I gave him props for having a prop, but no money.

I refuse to give cash money to anybody on the street. Sometimes when my wife and I go out with my parents my dad will inevitably buy into some bums story and give him like $5 bucks. It pisses me off.

I have another friend who is pretty liberal with his money to bums on the street and when I tell him to quit buying into these guys scams he says what they do with the money is their business, but when he dies the big man up stairs can't fault him for not being charitable. Yes he does have other consistent donations to legitimate charities.

I for one don't believe a word anybody says and I assume everybody who approaches me is trying to scam me. It's unfortunate because I really wish I wasn't like this and it wasn't justifiable .

Explain how they know which pump you were going to? The device has to be there before you arrive and the gas station attendant is going to notice someone spending time attaching a fake card scanner to all of his pumps. If he could accomplish that there is no need to beg for gas money as people are constantly pumping gas.
