i just quit my first job today. Ive been working there as a produce clerk for six months and i have finally found a much better job. I couldnt give two weeks notice because i didnt know if i was hired, and when i got hired i cant work both jobs for time constraint reasons.

I called in today to tell the manager and she hung up on me after i explained myself.

Is there anything i should have done differently? I mean its not a high class place and the only negative i see is that they wont give me a recommendation, which doesnt help much anyway...since its a supermarket.

They dont need to give notice when they let you go, why should you need to. If you dont plan on going back do not worry.

When does the new job start. Could you have said that I will start in two weeks or sooner depending on what my current employer says?
Its sounds like you said fvck you, I'm out.

Usually with your new job, you tell them you will start working in X days. In your case, you could have said 2 weeks.

If that isn't possible, you should have started this whole thing 2 weeks ago. If that isn't possible, then you just have to decide who to anger - you old boss or your new one.

You should have worked with the new job on allowing you to give two weeks notice before quitting your current job. Most managers would have been able to work around that.

But on the other hand, oh well, it was a crappy job at a supermarket. Good riddence. Grats on the new job :)

Don't worry about it, but don't make a habit out of it. Too many burned bridges might come back to haunt you one day.

he can ask them to mail it and if they don't report them.

Of course he can, or he can go to the store physically and ask for his check. Either way, he must make some contact with the company.

Poohahahah

yeah, BUT if the employer doesn't give notice, it usually has to pay you two weeks of wages.
