Did your Walmart cut PC titles by a 1/3?

Bah was at my 'local' Walmart today and noticed some big changes to their music/games and movies section. It looks like they cut the music selection which already was sucky down to nothing and scaled back PC gaming titles to about 1/3 of what it once was 🙁 I didn't see any more 'value' games and the new release section was stagnant.

Yeah, yeah, yeah welcome to 2010 where you get your fix from digital distribution. Even so I'll miss seeing all those tycoon games for $9, new releases on release day where you didn't have to wait to buy a title and even more I'll miss seeing some titles I never heard of before for which I was pleasantly surprised when I bought them.

Yep, same thing here in Quebec but most cuts were done in the PC games.

They keep crappy titles and sometimes a big game gets there but for the most part, it's old weird stuff...

Correction. Welcome to 2010 where PC Games are shit. Nothing worth playing for the foreseeable future short of SC2 and D3.

I did not notice that the last time I was in there, but I have not been in about a month. Last time, they had about the same amount of space devoted to it as the other gaming platforms.

Eh, you want to borrow my rose colored glasses? 🙂

I haven't really looked at upcoming titles because I'm pretty happy playing BC2 and the throng of other games I already have installed. The new Settlers interest me, but I haven't hopped aboard yet.

It doesn't look like Walmart cut back just on PC games because of sales, it looks like they want to focus on Blue Ray movies. They also upgraded all their stands to make it look more upscale, still it was one of the last places you could actually see boxes face out and pick from a wide selection even if it was sort of crappy 🙂

Steam and other Digital Distro's are good for Indie developer's
My walmart has done the same thing...there 20$ console rack is bigger than our pc section. Even tabula rasa is still there with a 39.99 price tag 🙂

Most every walmart I've been to has had maybe at best 1/2 of a single aisle half-riser dedicated to PC Games, generally sharing the other half with value console titles. Been like this for the last 2 years.

Retail distribution for PC titles is all but dead. Digital distribution is so much more efficient and profitable, I'm surprised that boxed product still exists. There's a reason why console manufacturers are working so hard on digital solutions - just look at the PSP. Remove the cost of distribution, keep the price the same, you just made that much more in profit.

Do you mean exclusive games like Civilization 5? Witcher 2? Amnesia: Dark Descent? Heroes of Newerth? Settlers 7? Shattered Horizons? Or the plethora of cross platform games that will look better and/or control better on PC?

Nope, all shit 😛

All Wal Marts around here have terrible selection for anything electronic (except for console gaming). Their prices are usually at least $20 higher than online for any sort of hardware, and they have absolute shit when it comes to PC games, PC accessories, etc.

Wow. If you're just going to waste the system in your sig, you might as well raffle it off. 😛

Edit: My local Walmart doesn't have many PC games, but it's dying.

Wow... you must have your head far up Blizzard's ass to think that.

I mean, I'll be playing SC2 and D3 like everyone else, but there'll be plenty of good games coming out.

Wait a minute...

I haven't been to Walmart in a LONG ASS time but do they sell M-rated games?

Most people just buy their games online these days, either through a digital download or by ordering a physical box.

PC games went from an entire wall at my local Gamespot a year or so ago down to a small floor rack. Not that it really matters though. Digital distribution services like Steam have made boxed games obsolete except for the few PC gamers still on slow connections. Steam's sales have got me buying all my PC games online now.

Yepp.

I'm wondering with their DVDs, do they have the swear words bleeped out like they do with their CDs?

It's quite interesting to know that Walmarts are so different as I thought they all were clones of one another. We have like 5 in a 30 mile radius and all of them had huge (at least 50+) PC titles to pick from.

Walmart used to have a lot of good titles for the PC, but now it has cut back. Lousy games and computers themselves are really overpriced also. Our local target used to have a nice PC game section, but they recently redesigned the entire PC and console gaming section and really cut back on the selection of PC games. Now mostly all they have are a few new releases, and a lot of 9.99 casual and kiddie games.
This is too bad. I still like to pick up a game DVD in a local store. No waiting for downloads or for the game to be delivered. Also if you need to reinstall, you dont have to download again.
