Did you take engagement pictures before you got married?

If so, where did you take them and were you happy with the results?

My fiance and I did our engagement shoot at the Santa Monica Pier this past weekend. The photographer was my friend who is going to be shooting our wedding for the price of flying her and her boyfriend out to the East coast, I'm excited to see how they turn out.

EDIT: Please feel free to post any engagement pictures you feel comfortable sharing! 🙂

Yes, we took them at various places, downtown, sculpture park, down by the docks near sailboats, near train tracks, and near old buildings. What a pain in the ass that was, but whatever, it kept the old lady happy.

Sure I was happy with the results, he did a good job.

Whew that's a lot of places! Was it all in one day? Did you have any outfit changes?

Yah, took them at a local park. They turned out fine, but we didn't pay an arm & a leg for the photographer.

Nope.

But we had enough pics the day of to last us 10 life times.

I have never been so sick of smiling as I was that day...

My cheeks hurt from smiling for pics all day.

Sort of. My wife know some photographer who were looking for models, so we went to Golden Gate park and had some pics taken for free, wife brought several changes of clothes. We also took our wedding pics two weeks before the wedding day because the photographer wasn't free on the wedding day (and it was cheaper than doing it on the day). Got married on the beach, so it was easy to take pics at the same place.

Nope, but there were an assload of pictures taken on the big day. I never really saw the point in having engagement pictures taken to be honest.

Same day, took about 4 hours since they were all kind of close together. We wore the same outfits.

Somebody started showing me their engagement pictures one time, and I thought it was really weird. Isn't it supposed to be, like, a surprise for the chick or something? Knowing that, it seemed really contrived having someone taking pictures of it. Ditto with people who let the girls pick out the engagement ring.

Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I thought guys went and bought a ring THEN asked the girl if she wants to get married. THEN maybe go out and get a portrait done at one of those studios. Or is that what everyone here is talking about?

yes. at a semi-private beach in the ft lauderdale area. Very happy with how the pics came out.

We also got a bonus - aside from us, there was really nobody else around on the beach... except for a young Latin couple - the guy taking topless pics of what I will presume was his girlfriend's sandy, yet magical boobies. Our photographer was a family friend and not shy about joining in on the boobie picture taking, which he graciously included with our pics.

err, engagement pictures are taken during the period in which you are engaged, generally not at the moment of becoming engaged.

Me and my woman just did them a few days ago (getting hitched in a couple of weeks). We just went to one of those chain photo places, nothing too extravagant. We did them so we could give them to our respective parents, aunts and uncles since they do not really have any good pictures of us.

The guy I'm talking about had someone taking pictures AS he asked her. Just weird.

When I proposed, I had it videotaped by a friend (I surprised her at her night class - I set it all up with her professor, but her class friends were not in on it. It was a total surprise to her since we had not planned on getting engaged for at least another 6 months).

We also had engagement pictures taken. They were done at a park by our wedding photographer. The "sitting" was included in our wedding package. The one picture we ordered is one of the best pictures of us ever.

I took a couple by setting up a camera/tripod on a pier. Turned out fine. We just needed the one picture, which we put on Jone's Soda bottles for the reception party favor at everyones' seat.

I couldn't get my husband to agree.

He also had no time for it, inbetween finishing school and then studying for the bar.
