Wasn't this brand over rated as much as Sony a few years ago? I remember in 8th grade (94-95) everybody just thought Aiwa was just the best damn brand in the world. I don't know what it will take to get people to stop being Sony fanboys but I am glad to see that Aiwa has come to light.

i think they are part of sony.

it was never thought that aiwa was better or good as sony. their prices were always slightly lower. it was value for money sorta😛

Did you hang out with a lot of crack-junkies when you were in the 8th grade? 😉

Well you buy something cheap, you get what you paid for! If you want something to last you have to foot the big cash to buy that.
AIWA is a just Sony's "low-end" brand. I think that when people are buying AIWA they are expecting to get Sony quality for less. (Which is actually what they are getting, my Sony "boom-box" stopped playing CD's about two weeks after the warranty was up.) I've had great luck with Sony'd video products, and with Sony's older audio priducts (1970's Sony turntable that works beautifully), but their newer audio produts seem to be lacking.

this should be stickied. everyone knows someone with one of these systems🙂 even if it hasn't broken yet you can get a 10 dollar rebate on another aiwa product(yes not exactly tantalizing)

they have you totally covered. if you already repaired, they will reimburse ya, if you shipped it, they'll repay shipping😛

well hopefully this works out smoothly, going to have mine repaired. the unit still sounds very good, that was one thing they did right.

My Aiwa is on the list and has been working fine for the last 4 years. It's my bedroom system so doesn't get used too much - maybe thats why it has lasted.

As to the remedy: $10 rebate on an Aiwa product costing more than $100???? What a joke. It's the lawyers who will make out with a few millions.

according to the site the settlement was 6 million. then again a bunch of 100 dollar repairs would eat into that quite a bit😛

hmmm. I have the N530X which isn't listed but the CD player doesn't work. that's not fair. I believe mine is the N510 but mine is a japanese model not a US one. 🙁

oh well, i'd kind of written this thing off anyway, not gonna put out any effort to get a $10 refund or get it fixed even.

It is now, but I think the quality used to be much better.
A lot of guys bought their reel-to-reel tape recorders while they were in Japan on R&R from Nam.

wow.. I have a CX-NA50.. this cd player hasn't worked for years either, but I had no idea about this court action! excellent!

Where did you get that from? Nah, none of them were crack junkies to my knowledge.

Thanks for the info! I have a NSX-AV800 model that has had trouble playing CDs for years now.

Likewise, I had the exact same model, thanks for the late night bump guys.
