yes, but the test was a total joke (took it in Shepherdsville, KY) - it was basically pull out onto the street, turn right, stop, turn right, pull off the road & stop, get back onto the road, back into a driveway & turn around, turn into a parking lot, and parallel park. Sounds slightly difficult, until you realize that the test takes place almost entirely on a back road with absolutely NO traffic.

As I remember I passed with an 85 - I was too far over on the "back into a driveway" part, and the 90-year old guy giving the test said I needed to practice parallel parking more (I was about halfway into the "parking space" when he said "ok, that's good" - never actually let me finish parking)

I passed the UK test on the second try. Anyone who fails the US test even one time should be barred from having a license forever. When i took the PA one i couldnt believe how easy it was. Answer some really easy questions, drive around the block, ok, you passed.. WTF.

The little man failed me all for taking a turn too fast in his opinion. I guess if it hadn't been raining it would have been OK but the guy thought it was bad for the conditions. Bah. Road test was on the streets of the Bronx BTW, not some pansy parking lot test in NJ. Raining the second time too, IIRC, but I had a cooler tester (and I didn't drive as fast!).

It wsa funny, got it when I was 15. I basically had to drive around the block, only one stop sign. 2 minutes after I left the parking lot I was back

Yeah. Lost points due to not being able to parallel park though. (Full sized long-bed pickup, couldnt even see the cones.)

Do most people take tests in parking lots? I've never heard of such a thing.

Yes. First time.

As to the UK driving test: if you guys would drive on the correct side of the road your test would be easier to pass. Get with the program already.

yup, but i got a bunch of points off for stopping at an uncontrolled intersection, instead of only slowing down, because there were no cars around.

Yes. The only thing I got marked off for was a slightly funny. The lady had me pull off to the curb and stop on some empty back road behind the DMV. She wanted me to back up one car length and stop again, so I did. However, after I stopped, this kickass truck drove by and she and I were both :Q at the awesome truck. She and I briefly talked about what was awesome about it before she instructed me to return to the DMV. We were both fixated on the truck and I forgot to use my blinker to get back into the traffic lane (even though there was nobody on the road, it's still the law). She was like oh wait you forgot to signal. Sorry bud, but I would have done the same thing. :p

Passed with high marks in HS for the driving test, and never had to take the road exam at the DMV. As a matter of fact, I've never had to take a road exam, and haven't had to take the paper exam since. That was 17 years ago....
No tickets, no accidents on my record either.

no.

I never had any training outside of driving with friends before I took my road test, and no one ever explained to me that the rolling stop that everyone does on street corners isn't what you're supposed to do during the test. so I failed the test for running through 4 stop signs.

I took it again asap, though, and -- knowing what to expect -- passed it without a problem.

Of course I did and driving a stick shift at that, and the test we took 26 years ago was a little harder than the one given today. I actually had to merge onto the highway and drive for a few miles, neighborhood driving including a school zone, I had to back up over 100 feet on a high crowned road, I had to parallel park, and I had to do a 3 point turn on a road with ditches on both sides. It was a little nerve racking and the test took over 30 minutes. These days in Texas the little kiddies get to take the driving test with the instructor who has been teaching them....who is getting paid so his incentive is to fail them?

passed on my first try with no mistakes in just less than five minutes.

parallel parking, k-turn, full stop at stop sign and so on.
