They are one of a few mainstream bands that have progressed to less commercial music rather than more, pissing off Creep fans and indie snobs alike. Look at the other popular UK bands like Coldplay and Travis - they are making a living off the music Radiohead made 6-7 years ago. Radiohead will still be on the greatest bands list in 10 years when most of the cookie cutter crap is gone.

I will say that of all commercial music, Radiohead does seem to be the most artistic and creative. If you think that Radiohead is the best band to come around in years you really need to check out the more underground scene. There are so many extremely talented musicians out there that sadly know one has ever heard of. I enjoy seeking out these bands, and I know that I may never find the best ones, but the music you find in the underground bands will blow you away. These musicians posses more talent in their little finger than ol Thome could ever hope to muster. I'm not saying that Radiohead is bad, I love them. But there is so much more out there.

Hmm...let's see...classical music critics hail them as one of the greatest rock bands of the past century, great musicians of all genres from around the globe respect their music, many fine musicians (again, of all genres, and again, from around the world) have done their own transcriptions of their music....

Uh-oh, some guy named "Skoorb" with 18,000 posts on a message board says that their music is dumb, it must be so...

Oh, and I'm sure these "classical music critics" are somehow better judges of music? A bunch of fogies crawl out of their holes long enough to dub the first band they've listen to in the past 100 years to be the best. Pffttt... Next time you talk to these high and mighty critics, tell them I said, "Cram it with walnuts."

There's a reason why people like the bands they do; its because they like it. The opinion of a bunch of snobby critics means absolutely nothing. Nothing. NOTHING. N-O-T-H-I-N-G.

That wasn't directed at anyone specifically, just pointing out that arguing about music is a waste of time. I keep trying to tell ndee that Mariah Carey is the devil and he won't listen to me.

They don't suck, their music is simply above your intellect.

Don't worry, there's plenty of music out there for people like you. Just check out the pop section at your local Sam Goody.

Every Radiohead album put out so far has been fantastic. I really dig the the new stuff too. But if you like all your music to be the of the 3 minute, radio-friendly, melody->chorus->hook->chorus variety then maybe you're more suited to more traditional bands.

My thoughts exactly. I'm a musician of 15 years, studied it some in college, and have very eclectic tastes. But some of Radiohead's stuff (especially their SNL appearance) is atonal cacophony.
