The Polar Bear Expedition (also known as the Northern Russian Expedition, the American North Russia Expeditionary Force - ANREF or the American Expeditionary Force North Russia - AEFNR) was a contingent of about 5,000 U.S. troops who landed in Arkhangelsk, Russia and fought the Bolshevik forces in the surrounding region during the period of September 1918 through July 1919. The expedition was part of a larger foreign involvement in the Russian Civil War.

These soldiers were to become members of the American North Russian Expeditionary Force. Along with British, French and Canadian allies these "Polar Bears" were sent to the frozen frontier of Archangel, Russia, in September 1918, in a confused attempt to thwart the Russian revolution. It would be another grueling nine months before they would finally make it home in June 1919.

Now if the US, Britain and France had only taken out the Commies back in 1918, it would have saved a lot of lives.

Also...US pilots battled the Red Air Force over the skys of Korea during the 50's as some of the MiG's were piloted by Soviets

Israel also battled the Soviets in dogfights I think during the 70's when the piloted MiG's for the Egyptians...I think.

Didn't know about the last one.
