Apparently this was put into place this past year, but I had zero clue and haven't heard about it until now. Ebay claims the right to use your pictures for their item catalogs / other users auctions. I knew ebay was a piece of shit company, but didn't think they would be so shitty. The default setting is obviously opt-in. To disable this, go to my ebay, click account. On the menu, site preferences. A few rows down you'll see "Share your content". I'm trying to opt-out right now but it is giving me an error, what a surprise. I believe ebay also said they reserve the right to your pictures used before opting out. Fuck you ebay, and fuck you too paypal, for good measure

That's pretty standard. Just about any service has in their contract that they can use any material you post.

So don't host the pictures on eBay. I never do. I host the entire advert from my own web server and once the auction is over I take it down.

If eBay were a free service it's understandable, since it is a service you pay for I think it's over the top.

I'm not exactly taking picaso-esq. pictures, so I don't care... it'd actually be degrading their website if they put my pics up. lulz

That is until they save the images and steal them for mad profit... ;)

Just out of curiosity, say i use an image I've legally acquired from Getty Images in an auction on ebay... could ebay legally use that image or would Getty sue them/me?

I never heard of "Getty Images" but more then likely they would inform ebay the image is theirs and then ebay will delete your account for copyright infringement since you broke their tos and then get sued by getty images.
