They are pretty damned fast too. We were chased by them a few times growing up. But Cottonmouths are way more dangerous. They are aggressive, and will also chase you. I was hammering the single track at the wildlife refuge on Merritt Island years back, and had to bunny hop one laying on the trail. When I looked back he was completely extended vertical striking where I just was. Had a friend chased too.
