It was a long time ago - we honeymooned in Abergavenny, Wales, UK It was gorgeous, mountains. We were there on business - we had a microphone company and there was some guy in Abergavenny who handmade really great microphones. He hooked us up with a small very nice hotel. They took fantastic care of us, pampered us nicely. They were surprised that we came all the way there for a honeymoon. The food & local beer were well worth the trip.

You didn't go all that way for a honeymoon.

We didn't go far at all; just drove around Western NY, hit up the Fingerlakes region, and headed over to Niagara Falls for something else to do on a 3rd day. Rather than spend it on a honeymoon, we saved the money to plunk down on a house that we had just put in a purchase offer for earlier in the week.

Yes and no. We traveled Europe for a month. Some places were unusual (Interlaken, Nice) and somewere typical (Paris, London, Venice, Rome, Florence).

Smart. I wonder why more people don't do that.

Maldives... not a very unusual place for Asians and Eurpeans to vacation it seems, but apparently uncommon for Americans (its damn far away)

Our honeymoon was in New York City, probably not a common honeymoon destination.

It was fun, but it wasn't a "relaxing" honeymoon like you would have in the carribean. We were on the move pretty much non-stop.

We got married in 1987 and went bass fishing for 5 days on Mark Twain Reservoir in Hannibal, MO. Saved our money to buy a house the following year. Best thing we ever did. Moved about 10 years ago, and the house is paid off. Now we travel.....

We considered something like that in the mountains of New Hampshire, but wanted the symbolism of doing something adventurous and exotic to celebrate the marriage. My guess is we'll look back in 20 years and think that the honeymoon would have been special no matter where we went, but it's all a matter of where your heart takes you at the moment.
