its back in name only

Yea, that's a lot of things. Disappointing, but a facsimile is better than nothing. Companies that have maintained an organic chain of ownership over a long period of time are fairly rare. They get bought out, and folded into larger companies. The product then suffers as shareholders dictate direction, rather than quality products.

thank the bakers union

When I think of Twinkies I think of the cream center filled with thousands of ants instead of delicious cream. Won't be buying one anytime soon.

From experience or are you just oddly paranoid?

KT

I can see where he's coming from.

I once bit into a shrink-wrapped moon pie, and instead of creamy goodness at the center, I was welcomed by a hoard of ants.

more than 20 years later, this event still weighs heavy on me whenever I approach processed snack cakes.

Agh! How does that even happen? Where did you get the Moon Pie from? Did you find it on the ground or something?

Good lord. D:

Good thing I always break those kinds of things in half before I bite into them.

Apparently they are freezing them now to get longer shelf life.

They also tweaked ingredients and moisture content a bit to achieve same, but supposed to taste the same.

No interest in buying them, though.

This is correct. You won't see the Hostess trucks delivering the product any more. The product is beings sent to main food warehouses like Associated Grocers and then dispatched to stores are requested with the rest of their order. Likewise, they do come in frozen. Word also has it that they have more preservatives in them and tweaked ingredients too, so they won't taste exactly the same.

From our cupboard at home. IIRC, there wasn't an ant invasion in our home at the time--they seemed to be localized to that moonpie or that box of moonpies. I assume they came from the factory.

In hindsight, I should have sued! 😡

Yes, I have learned my lesson. Mostly, though, I just avoid them altogether.
