I was something like 12 too when I saw it and loved it.
Saw it again on cable recently (23 now) and still loved it.

I watched it for the first time a couple of months ago, and thought it was hilarious.

effin' hilarious.

Plus you get Jack Nicholson, Danny DeVito, Pam Grier, Jim Brown, Glenn Close, Michael J Fox, Pierce Brosnan, Jack Black, Sarah Jessica Parker, Natalie Portman, Annette Benning, Martin Short, and Rod Steiger all in the same flick.

So it seems the humor was either off or the cast sucked to most people who didn't like it. I dunno, I just felt repulsed by all the brains bursting apart, especially the repetition of it, and there's something that really creeps me out about ray guns that only leave skeletons left, I noticed the same thing in Spider Man with the grenades. I dunno what it is, I can watch war movies and shit no worries, but there's something really uncanny about the way the ray guns just sorta...melted human flesh away like that, it was really disturbing.

Maybe I'm analyzing it too much.

Next time don't watch it on acid.

I was going to say the same. Acid, mushrooms, or way too much dope can make dark comedies very disturbing and alienating. I speak from experience, as Grosse Point Blank will never be light-hearted for me again.

Any thoughts? I don't know, maybe I expected it to be funny with all the hearsay here on AT and in general, but I felt more repulsed and disturbed than actually amused.

Any comments?

Watch Independence Day first and then watch Mars Attacks. It is a parody of ID and while not laugh out loud funny, it is intellectually funny in light of ID.

Mars Attacks! Official Site!

Where the hell is my HDDVD copy of MARS ATTACKS! Warner Brothers?!?!? :brokenheart:

Mars Attacks!

Where the hell was Johhny Depp, Tim Burton?!?!? :brokenheart:

Great flick. :gift:;)

Anyone who don't "get it" needs to stick to Disney fare. :p

And if you don't "get it" you won't get the other similar alternate reality type flicks Tim does, either. So don't hurt yourself too bad watching "Pee Wee's Big Adventure", "Edward Scissorhands" or "Beetle Juice", ummkay?

Actually, the movie does parody quite a few alien invader movies, but both projects were started around the same time, and MA! came out 5 months later, so it couldn't have been a direct parody, but it worked out to be that way, ironically.

If Signs wasn't supposed to be a serious film, I'd say the way the aliens died was a parody of this movie.

Hell yes. But like a Barry Levinson film, it's more subtle/adult humor. It doesn't insult your intelligence by telling you when to laugh like every current theatrical release for idiot America.

The first 2 minutes of this clip, for example:

Always leaves me in stitches. In fact, that whole clip is pretty much gold.

haha forgot how sweet that movie was

I didn't find it funny either. The humour was too deliberate and over the top. Actually I don't find parodies in general to be very funny. They seem too forced.

I bet you prefer lots of forced fart jokes, instead. :p
