Did you find "Mars Attacks!" to be funny?

I don't know, supposedly there's a lot of humor in it, and I saw the hints and satire and parodies, but when people say "oh that movie is so funny," I can't help thinking they're putting on some sort of act, because I saw the movie, and while I do appreciate its surreal qualities (and by qualities I mean that the quality is what dominates the movie) I can't actually laugh, and instead, I am rather disturbed, and I felt like puking when the movie was over.

Any thoughts? I don't know, maybe I expected it to be funny with all the hearsay here on AT and in general, but I felt more repulsed and disturbed than actually amused.

Any comments?

I thought it was funny, but I was 13 at the time, so take that into account. I don't know how I'd feel about it if I saw it today, but my liking of the film was never enough for me to watch it again, so there's that...

Kinda funny, kinda not funny enough. I didn't find it at all repulsive. I was mildly entertained by it, and slightly disappointed I wasn't entertained more.

I suppose I was in a similar boat, but I just felt like it was just really weird, and more weird and less funny. I didn't get it.

Yup. Nothing wrong with mildly entertaining, though.

It was incredibly stupid.
And not in a funny way like Beavis and Butthead, but a REALLY annoying way like when a 7 year old tells butt jokes or George Bush talks about the middle east.

nope, didnt care for it. i actually enjoy dark comedy and even more so burton's films; but this movie was pretty much torture for me to sit through. but then again i have enough trouble stomaching a movie with either sarah jessica parker or glenn close, so for them to be featured in the same movie pretty much makes me regret hitting the play button in the first place.

I thought it was great. The way the aliens kill people is just so over the top and surreal. Same with the old woman's music killing them.

So it seems the humor was either off or the cast sucked to most people who didn't like it. I dunno, I just felt repulsed by all the brains bursting apart, especially the repetition of it, and there's something that really creeps me out about ray guns that only leave skeletons left, I noticed the same thing in Spider Man with the grenades. I dunno what it is, I can watch war movies and shit no worries, but there's something really uncanny about the way the ray guns just sorta...melted human flesh away like that, it was really disturbing.

Maybe I'm analyzing it too much.

Next time don't watch it on acid.

It's a little like Zoolander, Buckaroo Banzai and Top Secret! in that you have to accept that it's set in an alternate reality with its own rules for the film to make sense.

If you can do that, it's very entertaining.

Except that Buckaroo Banzai rocked and Mars Attacks, Zoolander, and Top Secret! were meh films.

I found it entertaining. Worth renting for a couple of good chuckles and maybe a lol or 2.

I found it hilarious when the solider tried shooting his gun, and it jammed or something.

Same goes for when that song come on and blew up everyone's heads

Hell yes. But like a Barry Levinson film, it's more subtle/adult humor. It doesn't insult your intelligence by telling you when to laugh like every current theatrical release for idiot America.

The first 2 minutes of this clip, for example:

Always leaves me in stitches. In fact, that whole clip is pretty much gold.

Negative. Like all Tim Burton movies (yes, EXCEPT Batman) it sucked balls. Has he had a good movie yet?

it was great... it's a primer for an obama presidency... he's gonna talk to the bad guys and make them our friends... the aren't really bad guys, just misunderstood...

Had its' moments. Like GI Joe who spent his time preparing for the Army, then when finally reaching a combat his gun falls apart in his hands. Wasn't a great movie though.

What? Top Secret is awesome and Zoolander is pretty good. Agree with you on Buckaroo Banzai though.

I don't really find it funny, although I understand their humor. I don't know if it was the execution or what, but the movie just was not really entertaining. I did not know that it was a Tim Burton movie, but I guess that's another movie of his I'm not that big of a fan of.
