Did you find GTA IV boring?

GTA for the PS2 (the first one) was a wicked game 7 years ago when I played it. I had hours and hours of fun. I got GTA IV yesterday for the x360 and frankly I'm finding it's essentially the same game. More dailogue, better graphics (albeit quite bad ones, but this is because of how there are no load times, but I've crashed into something before and been like wth and then it finally renders), but it really feels the same, just driving around, run from the cops, take some cars, shoot some people. I feel if I'd never played GTA I would love this game but to me it's just feeling like a boring expansion.

BTW I've finished two of the Little Jacob missions to give an indication of how far I am.

I bought it used so I can sell it for no real hit.

Looks like Saints Row 2 is more up your alley of sandbox type games.

I never used to like playing through the missions of GTA games, as I thought the voice acting and story were lacking. With GTA4 I found myself really enjoying playing through the missions excited to see what will happen. But like you I really started to get annoyed by the render pop-up crap, and it sounds like an install to the hard drive didn't fix it either.

GTA IV was over-rated and over-hyped. It felt stale and I missed the goodies that kept being added to the GTA III lineup. Once I completed the campaign I shelved it in hopes that the DLC would bring the game up to bar with the rest of the series. It does not look like this'll be the case.

I'm still gonna give it another shot I think.

However, after the polish of Fallout 3, I don't see how IGN gave this a 10, if only for the strange last-second render issue; it makes going through unknown alleys a very risky proposition! I am running from the HD, btw.

I wish I could mind-erase my GTA 3 experience. Then this would be nicer!

I loved it and played 3, Vice City, and San Andreas. The best storyline to date IMO and everything just flows smoothly. I rarely have a rendering issue and it only happens when I'm entering a building. To each his own I guess.

Yeas, it was boring. Too much boring shit dealing with friends and not enough sandbox fun.

Complete opposite of your experience. Rented Fallout 3, couldn't stand it. Story's lame, everything's pointless, characters have no soul whatsoever. Loved the GTA series since PSOne, have all the GTA games, GTA4 is amazing. GTA:SA was way too long for my liking. I know some people like to compare their dollar spent on a game to hours of play time. I'm not one of those people. I look for games w/ great production value, attention to details, and characters depth and development.

Hated GTA4. The datings and needy friends were just annoying and the main character sucked.

I love Sandbox games and have beaten every GTA game thus far. Vice City was my favorite by far. The 80's theme was great and Ray Liotta's voice helped make Tommy Vercetti the best lead character in the series.

I didn't think GTA4 was bad, but I'm two-thirds of the way through Saints Row 2 and enjoying it so much more. It's clear SR2 was made with the #1 goal being FUN, as opposed to GTA4's more realistic story/gameplay/physics.

I really liked it myself. I like it when a game has a good storyline with good character development. If you bought this game mainly for the sandbox fun then you probably should've gotten Saints Row 2.

Yes, GTA IV is boring. The same missions over and over and over and over. No variety in the city, having to babysit friends, etc. The best GTA game was San Andreas. I loved the varied environments, different missions (parachuting from a plane, stealing a jet pack, controlling an RC plane. Awesome). GTA IV is nothing but "drive here, kill this person(s)."

Borrowed it from a friend, played to 30% story mode, got bored and gave it back. Good game but it doesn't grab my attention for some reason. (Although I love what happened to Manny in the game:laugh:)

I just did some xlive multiplayer and have to admit it's pretty cool. It's nice going around a corner and somebody else is too but they don't realize you're in a car and they were hoping for a gun fight. Splat!

I have it on PS3, I have only played it maybe an hour total but it didn't grab me at all, the crummy graphics and the constant slowdown really puts me down as well. It has some nice stuff, I could see why some people could get hooked up on it but I have yet to see anything that makes the game 10/10 worthy, of course, I'd have to finish the game to really say that :p

I originally played just the multiplayer for PS3..i was hooked on deathmatch, got to rank 4 and started to get bored. Until the Trophies were available im tryin to just beat the game, theres no way in hell i'll complete it 100% with everything finished.

I am having a hard time finishing the game. It got old for me pretty quick.

GTA4 was an excellent game, but it didn't have me glued to it like it's predecessors did. I can appreciate the approach they took with this one - toning down the over-the-top action and going for a more realistic feel - but I'm not sure it made for a better game overall.

I watched the new video for the Lost and Damned add-on and it looks pretty badass. I'm definitely going to get that.

How this game got 10's all over the place is absolutely beyond me. I can't believe it scored above an 8.5, honestly.

While I loved the aspects of GTA:SA you pointed out, I could never finish it because I hated how it turned into something of a grind, making you essentially replay aspects of the game you'd already done making it unnecessarily repetitive - if I wanted that I could just restart the fucking game.
