No, not really. We did have discussions on the issue, but it was never simply done in one big talk "because it was time". Generally the whole "where do babies come from" question was enough back then. I asked a question, got an answer, and eventually had more questions. Everything else I learned in school.

On another note - for those of the 'older' crowd on ATOT - have you or do you plan on having "the talk" with your children anytime recently/soon?

Not really school covered that stuff in elementary school.
the only thing my parents said was to always condoms and don't get her pregnant, which they said and still say often.

Nope. Just got the "don't screw everything that moves" line every few years.

Nope. Was just told to "don't knock her up" and "wear a condom" on a couple of occasions. It would've been pointless to have some talk with me anyway, I had learned all that crap on the Internets.

Fixed for myself.

No. The only thing I heard from my mother was orders barked and hypocritical advice given. She's coming around, though.

I don't ever plan on ever specifically having a talk, but information will be conveyed a bit at a time, as the situation calls for it.

Nope. Back in 6th grade when public school sex-ed started and puberty hit, my parents gave me a nice thick binder of information and said "if you have any questions feel free to come to us". I was 11... yeah that's gonna work real well. :p Fortunately the school system actually had a bang-up program so I turned out alright.

The only real "talk" my parents and I had was when I went off to college and they warned me about every "girls are lying bitches and will want you to get them pregnant after hearing that you're an engineering major so always wear a condom" horror story. Yeah... my parents are morons about a lot of things.

elementary school had a sex ed class that parents had to sign a slip and attend with us to watch a video:p so it would be redundant.

I figure this will probably be the way I do things when I have kids. Give advice as they ask for it, offer advice when they seem troubled, etc. And if s/he ever gets a second date, then the talk comes.

"The talk"... no. Them screaming and yelling at me because I'm corrupt, useless, dangerous to the community, harmful to myself, under the control of the only gay man they know, and in need of brainwashing? Why yes, repeatedly.
:(

sometimes there are benefits to having a family that never discusses anything openly.

actually, i'd rather *know* what the reaction is than just assume. this is one of the few areas where i consider someone to be for me or against me. ;)

Not really 'the' talk. Just some words when I got caught with pr0n on the comp. :( I got much sneakier after that though!

I spent most of my childhood reading through the World Book encyclopedia. My parents figured I would stumble upon the sex articles eventually. I did. At nine.

Yes, briefly. Didn't cover anything about homosexuality, just strictly male + female sex. I was 16 I guess. I had never had a girl-friend nor been on a date.

It was right in the middle of the season premiere of Star Trek: TNG, so I wasn't paying a lot of attention.

Yeah, my dad gave me the talk when we were painting a room. He was more embarrassed about it than I was.
