I was just reading this article at yahoo. I know I didn't list this stuff on my return. I know a lot of people purchase online here, did anyone do this?

This is for stuff you bought on the internet from out of state, and didn't pay taxes. If you live in California, and bought it online from a place in California, you already paid.

Though Supreme Court precedents side with the states, DeVeronica said he was outraged New York would try to collect: "The Internet is not a government service. It's privately owned so it shouldn't be taxable."

I do. The only stuff I order online is for my or my wife's business, thus luckilly places like Dell already do that paperwork for us.

All the good computer parts deals are already in California anyways. I've already paid.

LOL, exactly. ;)

My transactions with Newegg, Buy.com, DDD, and wherever else I bought things are between me and them, not the IRS. :D

I'm in Oregon, so there isn't a sales tax to worry about.:)

That law is ridiculous. What if you purchased things legitimately for work without paying the taxes? Does that mean you get screwed and have to pay the tax or is the company you bought the stuff for liable if the state decides to audit your credit card statements?

Is there anyway the IRS can really find out if you're lying? It's not like they're going to e-tailers and asking them for all their customer's purchases.
