Did we ever come to a consensus for eggs?

I've been eating more eggs lately (now that I actually eat breakfast...). Last I heard oh I don't know, 12-15 years ago when I was younger, was that you should only have a maximum of 4 a week.

Is this true, or were all these myths fostered by uh I don't know, let's just say PETA?

Mainly concerned with cholesterol intake as I have a fondness for red meat, and eating egg whites is just so boring.

Don't eat a bajillion of them a day, get some exercise, and don't worry about it.

My doctor told me one egg contains more cholesterol than the recommended daily allowance. Over 200 milligrams iirc. I've since switched to Egg Beaters and I can't taste the difference.

I don't think there's a much of a relationship between dietary cholesterol intake and blood cholesterol levels.

My experience:

Went on Atkins Lite diet with plenty of exercise, low carbs, low transfats, no HFCS, and plenty of meat, eggs, and dairy products. My high cholesterol levels plunged to the low end of the normal range.

Your experience may be very different. One egg could kill you, never know.

Eggs have some of the best protein you can get...they're great for weight lifting.

You left out the part where you sliced your taste buds off with a rusty straight-razor.

I know weight lifters that eat 12 egg whites for breakfast everyday... I ask them about the cholesterol and they tell me it's mostly in the yolk.

I've alwasy been under the impression that eggs contained the "good" type of cholesterol and is thus good for you. Anyway I doubt it's gonna hurt me so whatever.

From what I've read, there is little evidence to suggest that the cholesterol you consume from them affects your own cholesterol. Supposedly the quality of egg protein is exceptional as well.

Fixed.

Seriously?

You can't taste a difference?

This reminds me of the girl I knew who couldn't taste the difference between butter and margarine.

BTW I've been eating 2-3 eggs for breakfast for about the past month.

Last time I had my cholesterol checked it was low, so I'm living in the moment :)

What I do is add 1 real egg to 2eggs worth of egg product. Mix that and cook as normal. Very good and much lower in the fat and cholesterol department.

Until Egg Beaters are able to be fried over-easy in a bit of butter, they are worthless to me. :)

Good quality protein, and imo good quality fats. As said, they are not that high in cholesterol. They have about 500mg of omega-3 usually, and around 7% DV cholesterol.

I don't understand why someone would want to cut out good quality fats from something like eggs, then go ahead and haphazardly munch on things with a couple grams of trans fat.

I eat a lot of eggs. LOTS of eggs. My cholesterol levels are great. How? Well, I raise my own chickens. I don't feed them cholesterol, therefore the eggs shouldn't have any cholesterol.

What's that you say? Your body manufactures cholesterol, as do my chickens? Exactly! It's not what you eat, it's your genetics. You're either screwed, or you're not screwed when it comes to cholesterol. Your body produces the vast majority (I'm not even sure if cholesterol can be absorbed directly from the intestines - I thought it had to be broken down.)

Oh, re: egg beaters?
1. Can't make a sandwich from eggs over easy put between two slices of toast, lathered in butter, with 3 strips of bacon.

2. they're not *that* good. Tolerable, but what's the point? Eggs aren't bad for you.
