He purposely missed the FG to win a huge amount of money in Vegas. He would almost be stupid not to do that since the outcome of the game is entirely in his control.

who in their right mind (especially a colt) would have picked themselves to lose... i could see a QB possibly, but a kicker has few opportunities to lock a game.
(just pretending like your option was real 🙂)

The Vegas odds has Colts being the favorite to win. So he wins way more money by purposely losing to Steelers.
Yea and I'm sure he knew before hand that the entire game would rest in his hands.Originally posted by: ManSnake

Better question: Going on Troy's interception, did the refs favor the Colts?

once again, the odds of him having the opportunity to throw a game are so f'n slim it would never happen. pretty sure he'd end up in jail as well 😛

He was abducted by aliens. They used mind-control to make him missed the FG so the aliens can win a lot of money in Vegas and control the entire world through the means of money.

Pretty much his job was on the line with the kick. And the Colts are the perfect team for a kicker; inside a dome, artificial turf, great offense. So Vanderjagt purposely missing the FG does not make any sense.

Has anyone critizing him actually tried to kick the ball through the uprights at nearly 50 yards?
I have and it is not as easy as so many people make it sound to be.

Vanderjagt DID purposely miss the field goal, but not for reasons stated here.
He missed it because he knew the Colts had no chance of beating the Broncos. So, instead of causing embarrassment to his team and city, he took the fall for them against Pitt. Much better to lose now than in the AFC Championship game. The city of Indy should be thanking him, not berating him.
