Did Vanderjagt shank it on purpose

He purposely missed the FG to win a huge amount of money in Vegas. He would almost be stupid not to do that since the outcome of the game is entirely in his control.

no, he said the lord wasn't looking out for him.

what would his motive be?

Well according to severl talk radio shows, and columns the theory goes that it was a slight of revenge for the "Idiot Kicker" comment from Peyton. Hes a complete target for cap room cut next season and has no ties or love in Indy (he Canadian and holds no US residence) which would in turn possibly have him not be a bleeding heart NFL "fan" from birth... just a guy who could kick like a mofo and ladnded a job.. There's other little jabbers here and there.... I mean that kick was horrendous. He was indoors on HIS turf. Nobody in the history of the NFL has choked that hard on a kick. It wasn't "just wide" it wasn't even close.

I'm not saying that I thin kits true. I'm just tossing out what I have heard and read. Talk radio and editorials are made of flame bait like this though... so I felt it fitting for ATOT too 😛

who in their right mind (especially a colt) would have picked themselves to lose... i could see a QB possibly, but a kicker has few opportunities to lock a game.

(just pretending like your option was real 🙂)

The Vegas odds has Colts being the favorite to win. So he wins way more money by purposely losing to Steelers.

once again, the odds of him having the opportunity to throw a game are so f'n slim it would never happen. pretty sure he'd end up in jail as well 😛

Yea and I'm sure he knew before hand that the entire game would rest in his hands.
Or that he ran to the phone and made a quick call to all the bookies in Las Vegas and placed his bets just before he kicked the ball, with all the bookies knowing he was in control of who won the game. Take off the tinfoil hat. 😀

The guy choked, who wouldn't want a chance to go to the superbowl?

Better question: Going on Troy's interception, did the refs favor the Colts?

And the non-call for off-sides.
And the non-call for pass interferance.
And the very questionable call for PI against Pitt.

I'm a Seahawks fan. I really didn't care who won the Indy/Pitt game. But there was something going on there. Call it selective incompetence if you want...

He was abducted by aliens. They used mind-control to make him missed the FG so the aliens can win a lot of money in Vegas and control the entire world through the means of money.

Pretty much his job was on the line with the kick. And the Colts are the perfect team for a kicker; inside a dome, artificial turf, great offense. So Vanderjagt purposely missing the FG does not make any sense.

Has anyone critizing him actually tried to kick the ball through the uprights at nearly 50 yards?

I have and it is not as easy as so many people make it sound to be.

The Colts were 9 point favorites. They were not covering no matter how that kick changed the outcome. Even if he makes it and then they go to OT and win by 6 it's still the same.

Why should we have to? We weren't born with his gift, we're not paid millions a year, and we haven't basically made field goals like clockwork since joining the NFL.

Vanderjagt DID purposely miss the field goal, but not for reasons stated here.

He missed it because he knew the Colts had no chance of beating the Broncos. So, instead of causing embarrassment to his team and city, he took the fall for them against Pitt. Much better to lose now than in the AFC Championship game. The city of Indy should be thanking him, not berating him.
