did TV Tome just disappear??

Yahoo search for TV Tome tells me "the document contains no data." tv.com doesn't load for me so I dunno.

On April 22, 2005, TV Tome officially announced its absorption by CNET, much to the dissent of many members. CNET announced plans to relocate the site to its TV.com domain, which was acquired in 1996 for use in conjunction with the short-lived syndicated television series of the same name. A preliminary version of the new site launched on June 2, 2005 and on June 13, 2005, the site was permanently redirected to TV.com with an entirely new layout and TV Tome was considered by some to be officially dead.

www.tv.com resolved for me. Of course their webpage doesn't work with firefox :|

Works fine in Opera. Get a real browser. 🙂

Of course the new site looks horrible, but that isn't the browsers fault. The site design itself just sucks overall.

Agreed. On shows that aired in multiple regions(the BSG and Stargate series especially), the editors would jot down when non-US airings were if they got ahead of the US, now I have no way to know if I should be expecting TV rips from other regions or not.

One thing i've learned is that all good things on teh web must come to an end.

They always do 🙁

TV tome was awesome. I noticed that they were bought out by CNet a while ago. I guess tv.com is just TV tome with a makeover, though I haven't really tried accessing the info yet. I'm sure it will suck.

It needed a serious updating.

The new site isn't half bad.
...it's just slightly more than half bad. 😛

Pros:
Ratings system is interesting (I like being able to rate EVERYTHING)
Forums are much easier to access
Ditto for Reviews
Genre and Category entries: definite plus
Expanded information in Cast and Crew, etc., including headshots of the cast and other coolness.
Black/Dark Blue color scheme is much easier on my eyes.

Cons:
Series summary is truncated and limited on the main page
News items have no visible editor comments on the main page
Related, editors can't post info on the main page except in the "Summary" field
Front page is missing much of the useful info on TVTome, like:
- Current Season
- Number of episodes per season
- First aired / Last aired
- Upcoming Episodes
Limited size of screencaps of the series on the front page
Cast and Crew appears to be limited to 10 entries on main page
Synopsis of most recent episode appears on main page. (Potential spoilers)
No Notes section for Episode entries, neither in the Episode Guide page nor the individual page for the Episode. (Very useful for shows like Doctor Who, Lost, etc.)
Related, "Trivia Guide" has been incorrectly merged with "Goofs" rather than "Notes".
Episode guide is also missing Production Codes and Season numbers, e.g. 1x01, s01e13, etc. (The latter are especially invaluable, and really need to be there)
Community Reviews take up half the main page. (We care about reviews, but not that much)
Can't just type in "tv.com/<show_name>" and get the show page. (e.g. "http://www.tv.com/doctor-who-2005/show/34391/summary.html" vs. "http://www.tv.com/doctor-who-2005/")

A couple of the Cons sound more like migration problems than anything else. If they fixed most of those I'd be much happier with the layout. As it is I'm having too damn much difficulty finding useful information. C'mon, Cnet guys! You made the page look shiny and nice, created a really decent ratings system, now fix the layout so it doesn't suck!

This site seems to be a bit more "responsive" than TVTome. I still miss the old site though...

That's true, TVtome was excruciatingly slow at times.

Excellent Pros and Cons, you summed it all up well.

One good thing is that I don't have to reregister a new account, they kept my old TVTome username and password. I also like the show tracker, it's easier to access all the shows I like.
