I imagine his family may have some specific information that tends to make them think he killed himself. There is probably still an open investigation of some kind that we just aren't hearing about - he is a pretty minor celebrity, and so the media will only have an interest in this story when he is found (dead or alive), or if some interesting wrinkle develops (such as a ransom demand).
