Did the guy at Samsung lie to me?

Ok right now I am using a Samsung 204b LCD and what is happening is I have a border around the edges of my screen. Its black and looks like the screen cant be adjusted to fill in this area. I can move the screen now with the software but all that does is increase the border on other sides. I was wondering if this is common with LCD's cause the guy on the phone at Samsung says all the ones he was looking at do this. When I had my CRT I could adjust these types of things to make the picture reach the very edge, like all the way to the plastic border. If this is the way they are then fine I just wanna know if I might need to try another one.

i believe that is normal, youre talking about space between the actual LEDs and the plastic edge of the screen right?

Yeah thats what I am talking about and it drives me nuts that I cant at least make it even like I could with my CRT.

Huh? You must be talking about black borders around the screen itself (obviously not the bezel on the device)? Are you running analog or DVI? DVI should always fill up the whole pixel matrix.

Yes the black borders on the screen itself, I am using DVI If I move the screen to the right then images on the screen dont fill in that border area but yet then a border area gets bigger on the left side. I hope you get what I mean.

Are you running at native resolution? Does this also happen at POST time (boot-up)? For instance, go in to your BIOS setup and see if the whole screen is filled.

Running at native yes and its the same in the bios.

I have no idea what you mean, since if you use DVI at the native resolution, you cannot "move" or "shift" the image; it fills all the available pixels. Unless this is some weird Samsung "feature" that I'm not aware of.

Unless you see any height/width/scaling adjustments in your monitor's setup, unfortunately your panel is defective, if you are using DVI. Well, it could be your graphics card. Check if the same thing happens on VGA, and with another monitor.

The guy at Samsung had me hook up both cables. I was messing with it just now and you are correct with the VGA cable not connected I can no longer move the screen.

Oh, well to make sure you're using DVI, unhook the VGA cable from the monitor. Otherwise it could be on the VGA input!

And in your monitor's OSD make sure it says digital or DVI somewhere (the place where it lists resolution and refresh rate).

I will most likely head to Frys tomorrow and check out the ones on display and see if those fill the screen. I am only running the DVI cable now so it might be a bad LCD.
