Did the Freezing Point of H2O change Overnight?

ALL schools around here are closed and NWS is still posting WWA's for ZR.

It's pouring outside with an air temp of 36.74 degrees F.

Perhaps all the sensors in the roadways are still reporting 32 or lower since we're frozen pretty good.

NO ice detected on powerlines at ALL. Roads are WET not iced...

Kids are going to be going to school until July this year! Some school districts have used twice their alloted snow days and it's only the beginning of Feb! (Winter hasn't been that bad, most schools were closed for a WEEK in SEP from cleanup after Isabel!)

What are people going to do when the REAL weather arrives?

Cheers!

They are really paranoid around here when last year a few people died on the roads to schools cause of ice. The roads are not bad here near DC this morning, its kinda stupid IMO.

The advancing weather front slowed down.

Also they were forcasting a mix of freezing rain/snow during the late night/early morning

The warm front won the race and made it in first.

NYC schools finally used a single school day last week. No problem here, what kind of wusses run your schools? 😀

Perhaps but thermagraphics show the freezing point was breached well before the execution point for most systems.

Looks like they pulled the trigger early on this one.

Better safe than sorry I suppose.

I remember when I went to school and many times the school bus slid nearly off the road. They used studded tyres which were hard on the roads. When schools closed, nobody was going anywhere anyways...

Cheers!

P.S. Looks like the WWA was pulled for most zones at 10:01 EST

They were calling for ice and a wintry mix yesterday afternoon up until a few days ago, yet it was supposed to be upper 30's to 40 degrees out.

At 5:00 A.M., the ice was actually quite bad here in No. VA. I ran out to place some trash by the curb for pickup. My car had quite a bit of ice on the windows - and the sidewalks were slippery. Schools had to make their decisions to close for the day quite early - and speculated quite a bit based on the weather forecast. However, by the time school was to have started, it was all rain and the ice was gone. A late opening would have been a better way to go.

In my 12 years of schooling in Montana, I had all of 1 snow day. It was -40F with wind chill.

I went to school in Southern California and I used to always be envious when kids got the day off because of snow .... until I realized that we got days off when the temp was > 95 degrees. (No A/C in classrooms)

Efficaciously regurgitating a bi-theometrical parallax of ancillary
concerns, the potential effulgence of synoptic parameters requires a
steadfastly truculent navigational repast regarding Tuesday's storm.

A lissom of dendritic columnar seratim reveals a sublunary kinematic and
glaciated substrate of particulates culminating in ice crystal nucleation
process. Fractally correlating a systematic reduction in super-cooled
droplet concentration is not indicative or necessarily and sufficiently
related to pair correlation function. Interferometric fringes and
morphological instability notwithstanding, either homogenous or
heterogeneous initiation of a vapourous synthesis codifies the accretive
mechanism by which a collusive aggregation imparts a desultory
intransigence.

Cheers!

I think I understand that, but I have no idea what it references... 😕

Same here, we haven't had a snowday in FOREVER. Wisconsin schools suck 🙁

Caught another explanation yesterday.

As water evaporates it chills the surface that it is on.
Therefore the air temp may be above freezing, however, the evaporation of the water may cause the surface temp to go beloew freezing.

Plenty of black ice on the roads yesterday and today, even though the temp was sitting at 31-33 in the morning.

You do not want the school buses or kids out waiting with black ice on the roadways.
