Other things I did:

1) restored my page from the last backup after deleting every item from the tab
2) deleted all of the extra items in the tab that weren't part of my page
3) changed the language to English UK (but I'm not sure why that would cause a change)

Any way to change it? I used to just have headlines and now I have headlines and the first bit of text. I dont' want the text or the first bit of an email. Takes up too much space. Just changed today for me.

Click the little triangle on the Home tab, then 'Edit this tab' and switch off 'Show a short description for each feed article'. That works for the feeds, not sure about emails.

Thanks. THat worked for everything except the Gmail section.

Even going into GMail itself and turning off the Snippets doesn't seem to affect the iGoogle page.

Ok so I sent that feedback, and now my iGoogle page is back to normal... I'm totally freaked out now.

Mine has been that way for a few months. My wife's account still has the old style. I didn't like the new one at first, but I'd never go back now. So much nicer.

I can't figure out a way... I think some are suggesting that using www.google.co.uk might work for now as it still uses the old look, but I can't access any SSL pages on the .co.uk domain at work for some odd reason so I can't even sign into igoogle there.

It sucks.

There is less horizontal screen space due to the tab on the left. My RSS feeds look like a big wall of text all scrunched together. :(

I hated that too. First I turned off the feed descriptions which helped a lot, then I minimised/collapsed the Home tab. When the page reloaded, the wasted space on the left disappeared. Victory is mine!

And how did you do this?

Edit: Did you mean horizontally collapsed or vertically?

I've written a Greasemonkey script to at least move the "Get artist themes | New! Select theme | Add stuff »" links to the bottom of the page: igoogle_tweaks

I hope to write a Stylish style or Greasemonkey script to enable me to (horizontally) collapse/expand the side tabs, too.

Edit: Link URL fix

Very good, actually. Now I can easily delete emails from the preview, changing over to full-gmail is quick and easy, and moving the tabs to the side seems like a good idea given that everyone uses widescreens nowadays. You can always trust Google to bring good stuff - it's a huge corporate that somehow still maintains user friendliness and COMMON SENSE.

Earning 5.5 billion last quarter alone isn't bad either. Make no mistake, they may be user friendly and trustworthy, but like every other corp. they're after the green.

I collapsed the list of items in the tab which left the same gap, with only the name of the tab. I think there was a button to do that, or an option in the tab's drop-down menu.

This is what the LHS of my page looks like now:

I can't stand the igoogle gmail either. Links in emails don't work, have to use the navigation links (Back button doesn't work), pretty sure there wasn't a reply or compose message option for the longest time. Of course, they switched me over in the beta a while ago.

It doesn't allow me to click on hyperlinks in my emails from the page...

My page just reverted to the stupid LHS tab  I know there are some GreaseMonkey scripts to remove it, but a Slashdot comment had an Adblock filter which works nicely:

google.com#TD(class=leftborder)

Maybe there are some new good things, but I can't get over the screwed up "preview" version of gmail inside iGoogle or the screen real estate taken by the tabs on the left. I'm hoping it changes back, or they give me an option to go back to the old version like they do /w gmail.
