I disagree with this entirely. He's exceptional at feeling pressure and side-stepping in a shrinking pocket, and therefore consistently beats the rush with short drops and that super-quick release. Opposing defenses rarely have a chance because the ball is already gone before they get there. When he is untouched and in his rhythm he is "the best in NFL history".
However, if a defense can just get hands on him once or twice he quickly becomes very ordinary and very easily rattled. Then he goes to the sideline and starts screaming at his front lineAs soon as that protection starts breaking down and he has to scrape himself off the turf a few times, he turns into a whole other dude. Or should I say "Nancy".
I still think the Broncos will be a strong contender with him there because unlike the Colts they have a defense that won't need 40 pts from the offense to win a game.
Pretty sure you could look at any good QB in the league and find video of him chewing someone out. Be it line, receivers, offensive coordinator.
Manning is the one guy in the league who gets away with going into the fetal position when a sack is coming, and no one says anything other than, yep, he was going to get sacked, smart move. Better to live another down and let something break down than to risk turning the ball over.
But as far as avoiding hits, Manning is among the best. He still takes his share of shots, but he is definitely among the best at avoiding pressure and buying the second or two he needs to find an open man. As for him being a Nancy, he takes hits from some pretty big dudes, and goes back out on the next series, again and again. Sure, he's going to yell at his line if they aren't blocking as they should be. Every once in a while, a guy needs a fire up his ass. That may or may not be Manning's place to light the fire, but if he is getting hit as a result of their ineptitude, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
