Every time something bad happens, "Its gods will"
The Spanish Inquisition, Catholics (More followers of God)
Islamic terrorists, followers of "God"
PTL club
"To Train Up a Child" Christian book, on using torture to raise your kid (leading to deaths) more followers.
Bigotry, typically Christians,etc..
Pedophilia etc.. Catholic church
Westboro church, more followers of God.

You never hear about Satan doing bad things or his followers doing bad things.

I wonder if Satan just got a bad rap.

If you'd just look at the mass murders and stuff that god committed according to the Bible then you might indeed be inclined to say that god isn't all that 'good'. Which is where the creation of a common enemy comes into play. All evil comes from satan, so god 'didn't want to murder all those people, but he had to because of satan'.

Look at humans as computers. If you design them while being all-powerful and all-knowing yourself you can put in a random generator and call it 'free will', but your knowledge of the future (without that you'd not be all-knowing after all) made it so you were fully aware of what each random would lead to, and you still decided to design it a certain way. If you want the computer to do a task a specific way and, because of your own design, it doesn't, then it's not the computer that's to blame but you.
According to the Bible it wasn't satan that was the bloodthirsty murderer, it was god. Creating humans, then blaming them for their shortcomings (rather than looking at his own design faults), and killing them to cover up his mistakes.

That said, I think both are just made up bogeymen to scare people into doing what someone wanted them to do. Just like all those other gods are either meant as rolemodels or as threat.

Using the Bible as data on this subject, I would say Satan indeed got a bad rap.

God was just sitting in the dark His hands and coffee cup illuminated by a computer screen, reading this thread and thinking about how to answer it. He just had another sip and is still thinking......... The coffee is delicious.

If you were the devil what would you do, bring attention to yourself directly causing grief, misfortune, calamity, and all matter of bad things in your name,

or would you at every opportunity disguise yourself as a follower/preacher/priest of God and lead the people astray in the name of God thus making a mockery of God and his religion while doing all those bad things in God's name?

I would get folk to think they could recognize misdirection and fool themselves into believing that therefore they were free of it. There is no greater trap for the ego than to believe it has knowledge it does not have. There is no need to seek what one believes one already has.

I'd probably have someone write a book in which I claim it's the 'word of God', and which gets them to go against the will of their god. I'd call it the Bible, and they'd actually believe it to be the word of God. They'd even go so far as to deny that it could be the word of Satan instead.

Allow me to post this as a point discussion: "For those who know God and Satan, no explanation is necessary. For those who don't know them, there is no explanation that will suffice."

The things this particular character does in the bible aren't really bad at all compared to what god does, but hes supposed to be the guy who screwed up our perfect little garden world. So, every time someone makes bad decisions that leads them to live a miserable life of pain, sorrow, regret and all the rest of the bad stuff, its supposed to all be his fault. So in that way I guess hes a bad guy.
I'm just playing with this stuff though. The idea that this character is actually real is just so far removed from reality that its hard to believe I ever considered these stories as fact. Know what's actually real though? The indoctrination and brain washing of children to believe this crap. That's the real evil.

well, isn't that a convenient deflection?
