Catholicism fucked me up for a long time. hell i didn't loose my virginity till 19 bc i was scared id goto hell if i thought about girls in a sexual way. i gave up all religion after high school and will never go back

???

The scoutmaster gave me a choice. Admit that there was a God or leave. I left.

It was an organization about life skills. I wasn't about to pretend to be religious for that.
Their organization believes that spirituality is a life skill.
Even as a devout atheist I'm not sure the concept is so wrong. Of course, when I was in scouts they never tried to push god on me.

Well I just wanted to go camping, volunteer, and learn leadership skills. Apparently not being religious means I'm not capable of doing those things.

Naw, you were just weren't able to refrain from castigating others who's beliefs differed from yours. ()🙂

God wont, but Satan will. If you refuse God, then you are refusing to enter the kingdom of God.

Can you explain why God would leave no hard evidence of his existence, and then send me to Hell for not believing what other people told me about him?

This is a serious question, because it's ultimately the one that turned me into an atheist.

I was distraught a couple of years ago when my brother told me he was an atheist. I couldn't come to grips with the idea that of person of his character would be sent to hell, and I thought long and hard about it. I finally realized that I can't possibly believe that he would go to hell while someone like Pat Robertson would go to heaven. So my understanding of heaven and hell dissolved. After that, it was a very short road to atheism.

Faith is a choice. Can you explain why other people saying your brother would go to hell means there is no God? Perhaps your faith wasn't strong enough to realize that God judges not, people.

OK, but if it doesn't matter in terms of going to heaven or hell, then I have no reason to believe.

lol what a thing for a "follower" to say

The thing that I have noticed both in 'followers' and professed atheists is that they are looking for a contract. The believers want a set of rules to follow that will allow them to go to heaven and the unbelievers want proof that they should make the choice to believe. There is no cause and effect other than what God decides. Humans don't get to negotiate with God, if we believe in his principles as described in the Bible then, we should want to behave in a Christian manner (not to be confused with the way a lot of Christians actually behave).

But then there are many different versions of the bible and the bible has been edited to hell over the centuries by man so it's hardly HIS principles at all if you believe there is a him.

What a happy load of horseshit. Contract? I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for evidence when such fantastic claims are made.

I believe that the intent remains the same and specific words or passages don't alter the the principles that Jesus tried to teach. I realize that many don't agree but, I think that following these principles is logical even if you don't believe in God. Again, belief is a choice. There is nothing that can be pointed to in any version of the bible that constitutes proof. You seem to be saying that the lack of consistency between different groups of Christians, not to mention, all the other religions, means that there is no God.

I'd say it's pretty suggestive. If God existed why would there be so many different religions believing so many irreconcilable things?

No

You said it's the word of god and if it was, why did man feel it wasn't good enough and need to change it??? If it really was god's word then it didn't need to be changed at all by anyone. Why were whole books removed that were originally in it? If god is infallible then his word should be.

Ever play the game 'Telephone?' Changes, reinterpretations and, books left out are all the result of human retelling. That is precisely why the principles of Christianity as taught by the parables of Jesus are more important then specific words or passages in my belief.

but if god originally intended to have those books in the bible and man took it out, it's not longer the word of god as he intended

And how do you know the parables haven't changed?
