Did Newegg send me the wrong thing?!!

I ordered a whole bunch of parts off of newegg.com, to build myself a system, and am very pleased with everything so far, except for one thing...

When I started it up, it said that the processor in my system was an Athlon XP 1500+, running at 1300 Mhz. All of the utilities that came with my motherboard, the MSI KT4 Ultra, (Fuzzy Logic 4, WMIinfo, etc...) said the same thing and that my CPU was in fact a 1500+, running at 1.3 Ghz, and not a 2100+ Tbred "B" like I had ordered. I didn't know if this was just a registering problem or if in fact the CPU I am using is a 1500+ and not a 2100+.

Also, my core temp. is extremely low (32-36 C) almost always. This is making me think that it might be a 1500+ after all. Please tell me if this is a common problem, or if I need to RMA it, or what...

Pop your CPU off and look at the numbers. It also could be your bios isn't setup right. On the CPU see if you see 2100 anywhere on it or in the serial number.

go to Bios (press DEL), set the FSB to 133.

After making sure you have a stable cpu at the default 133 fsb, you can play with the fsb.
try do 166 FSB with vcore 1.65~1.7

Change your FSB to 133, not 100 w/c chances are it is set to.

100 FSB x 13 multiplier = 1300 MHz
133.3333 x 13 = 1734 MHz. <<<<<<< default speed
166 x 13 = 2158 MHz (overclocked)

The BIOS that I have is made by AMI, and I didn't see any place where I could set the processor clock, or register it or what ever... I tried to overclock it to 133 FSB with Fuzzy Logic 4, and it promptly froze on me and I had to restart. The highest I can get is a FSB of 119 for just over 1500 Mhz.

But I'll look at the numbers on it and see if there is any mention of the clock speed...

Thanks

I don't want to just try and overclock it to death...I want to get what I paid for.

Well you bought a xp2100+ t-bred B, I thought that implies you know what it is capable of.

I just dug up my old msi board's manual.
It is located in hardware monitor setup

Why would you buy a MSI KT4 board for overclocking? It has no PCI/AGP lock and no memory options.

I didn't buy it for overclocking!!! I just want my 2100+ to run at 1.83 Ghz like it is supposed to! Right now, it isn't.

Hey Uncle Wai, you go to Washington University? How is it? That's one of the colleges I am considering right now.

13 multiplier
133 FSB

Regarding UW, it depends, what are your other options.
If you are looking for an in-state University, this is probably the only one.
If tuition cost is not a restrain, please do look for other schools to go to.

welcome for pm

Go to this link below and click on the picture of the CPU.You will see some numbers written on the core like amp2100 which is 2100.Also AIUHB represents a Tbred I believe. This one has a brown PCB.Your chip might be green. They come in 2 flavours:) 2100+

PS: picture is of an MP 2100+ but its just an idea what too look for.

I'm going to try and set the fsb in the bios first, and if that doesn't work, then i'll tear apart the case and rip the heatsink off. I'm kind of hesitant to do that right now because it was harder that **** to get on in the first place.:D

There is a jumper on the motherboard sometimes also 100-133.Make sure its on 133.Check you manual for where the jumper is on the mobo.I think its called jclock or something like that.Just look for the 100 to 133 setting. Also make sure in the bios its on 133 also.

Typical fix for such a problem.

there may be a freq:pci divider set to 1/4 right now
you need to set it to 1/5 before you make the change to 133, or else it wont post

How exactly do you do that?

actualy nm that
i just noticed mobo, and its a kt400 :. no need to try to figure that out, its done automatically

the only fix:
goto bios and change cpu freq to 133 and make sure ram is also at 133 (or if its differentiable via dividers, make sure its either "auto" or 1:1)

All right, here is the deal...

I went into the BIOS, set the FSB to 133, and the monitor just went off. I tried restarting it, but to no avail, it just stayed off. On my system I have LED's that tell the status of the system, and mine stayed consistently on the "CPU damaged or installed improperly" setting. I almost had a heart attack. So I pulled out my tower, ripped it apart, checked the video card, it was okay. So I reset the CMOS jumper and restarted. Everything was fine. After muttering a quick prayer of thatnks, I knew almost for sure that newegg had in fact sent me the wrong thing. It wouldn't be having these kinds of problems if it was a 2100+, would it? So I emailed them asking them about the problem. Hope I get some answers.

why not just rip off hte heatsink and make sure lol
i know its a pita at times, but its better than guessing that you must be sent the wrong cpu
for future:always check to make sure u get what you ordered lol...thats the first thing i do
