I got an E mail from my parents. Evidently they were on the computer last night when it just shut down. I think it sounds like the power supply. What do you all think?

The basement computer crashed hard during printing. power went down on the cpu. smelled like rubber burning. turned off all power witches, tried restarting, cannot get any power light on the tower. I think the hard drive is dead. Please send me advice at my work Email.

A power suppy is the only thing that would smell like rubber burning right?

sounds like they know their computers ;) referring to the tower as the CPU/hard drive.

I dunno, if nothing turns on at all it could possibly be the PSU, pretty likely actually, only other thing that would cause a total lack of turning-on-ness would be a totally fried motherboard, thus causing the power switch not to function.

yea, my dad still doesnt know how to use the return key, so the emails I get from him are 1-2 long lines. LOL

Sounds like a PS to me though. What else would smell like burnt rubber?

Are the fans spinning in the power supply when they turn it on. If the fan doesn't even work, probably is the power supply. Also, get them to check and make sure they didn't blow a fuse in the house or something.
