Did MS do this just to piss me off?

This has always caused me grief. When you drag and drop within Windows Explorer, if I take too long the tree on the left hand side will suddenly expand and I end up dropping on the wrong folder and/or drive.

I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS "FEATURE".

Anybody know if it can be turned off?

I don't use explorer for dragging and droping that much but on trying it a couple of times to see what you mean yes it expands but all you have to do is pay attention to which folder is highlighted???

Easy enough on a local drag and drop but try it across a network sometime.

That's all well and good in theory, but in practice Microsoft perfected the exact timing of the expansion to happen milliseconds before you release the mouse button.

Instead of dragging/dropping, just copy and paste, if it is causing you that much grief. Also, do you happen to have less than 512mb RAM running XP? RAM helps a lot with stuff like that, by the way.
Tas.

Got a XP 3200+ with a gig of ram.

I would prefer drag and drop over cut and paste. Less mouse clicks. 😀

The only mouse clicks you need are to select folders in a timely fashion. 😉
