Did Lenovo just kill the "original" T-series thinkpad?

The pic appears to be the new T61, but i see no mention of a 4:3 model, only 14" widescreen. I played with a 15" widescreen T-Series at BB and was unimpressed, the T41 i have felt much more robust and sturdy. I have a sinking feeling the good old T-Series may be going away....

Might be a prototype, but it also seems that they're trying to do away with the old image.
They've decided to remove the IBM badge now and just left with Thinkpad.

No more IBM Logo ----> This sucks, but oh well at least it got replaced with ThinkPad logo instead of a Lenovo logo. And it's good that they kept the same format there so you can swap the logo with the older one 😉
Headphone ports on the front part!! ----> Major suckage, this is a major step down for me, this is not practical at all, this isn't an MP3 player, this is a computer! This better be just a prototype thing.

That could be good and bad. Good if you use headphones directly out of your computer, bad if you use speakers since you'll have to wrap the cord around the machine. The best spot for a headphone/mic jack is the left side (towards the front) or right side (towards the front) of the machine so it is easy to use with headphones or speakers.

This is the new line of Thinkpads that will use the new Santa Rosa Centrino system. They are going to be real performers, and are one of the reasons why the current T60s are being sold with pretty good discounts.

T61

One good thing about the T61's is that they'll drive down the price of the T60's even further. I've used a 1951FS1 for about a year now and have been quite pleased with it, except for some of the Thinkvantage bloatware.

I got to thinking about that - I was shopping for a new lappie, so I ordered the T60 and got $395 off on it. 🙂

The deal clincher is that is has both a PCMCIA Cardbuss slot and a PC Express slot. That lets me use my current aircard. Yea!

The Lenovo logo is at the bottom left of the screen. Makes sense when you think about it, since the IBM logo under the keyboard is usually covered by your hands when you're typing anyway.

The max resolution is going to be 1440x900?! Suck. That's a ~10% decrease from the long(ish) standing 1400x1050 resolution available on the 14.1" and 15" screens... 🙁
