If you had to get to the 6 yard line to get first down, and you didn't get to the 6 yard line then you also didn't get to the first down...

"If they want to have a chance of scoring, they're going to have to move the ball down the field"

Madden isn't great but compared to Kornheiser and some of the other crap on MNF he's become a lot more tolerable.

Madden's great at explaining plays & different parts of the game, but is terrible when there's a slow down in the game and he has to just talk.

Madden might be stupidly obvious at times, but that's infinitely better than being flat our wrong or actually stupid.

John Madden is becoming the Yogi Berra of football.
(no offense to baseball people, not trying to start a sport war!)

Couple Yogi quotes which I could easily imagine Madden saying :
"I always thought that record would stand until it was broken."
"I wish I had an answer to that because I'm tired of answering that question."

he also said: "they'll have 38 seconds at the end of the game"

regarding the colts after the missed FG.

In his defense, when they stretch the last two minutes of a game out to a half an hour, there's only so much BS you can make up before you have to start stating the obvious.

My favorite from last night was:

"See, the receiver ran an Up and Out pattern. The cornerback went up on the up, but not out on the out."

Probably not completely accurate, but that's how I remember it.

I think the guy doing color in the Redskins Eagles game was retarded... He was trying to sound like Madden, but he must have been talking about plays that were happening in some other game. "See, the Redskins have got to make those open field tackles..." Not a single beloved patriot was within 5 yards of even touching the guy on that play.
"See, when he cuts this way, the redskins defensive linemen have to get downfield to here (30 yards away) before the running back moves from here to here (5 yards away). If they would have gotten there, they would have made the tackle.
