I installed a 6800 nu agp into my system.
it wasn't having proper contact with the modo (Asus P4PE) and was giving me crap. so i whigled it a little bit and the artifacts went away.

One time i was doing it again and i was kinda careless. There was that soul penetrating smell of burning. when i turned it on again the crad fan spun for about one second and then stopped. So i killed the system cried a bit and then got another 6800 nu cuz i thought it was the card that died. but! the new card was doing the same thing. on the other hand when i put in a GeForce 4 mx it worked so wtf is going on? would getting a new mobo fix my problem?

Please help !!!

I tried a 9700 Pro (which is functional and is now for sale in my FS thread) and it didn't work either.

I did try one of the 6800's and it did work in another system.

The only thing that works is my GF4 MX :(
The only difference that i note is that it doesn't require a power supply conection and the other video cards do.

The saga continues.

my RMA came in today. When i put it in the usual stuff occured ( runs for 2 secs and then nothing)

I used an Antec tru blue 480 watt PSU and the fans on the card ran, but no signal....so i'm assuming its the mobo.

I didn't inspect it yet although i think there are some brown marks in the AGP slot at the end of it. if you are looking towards the back of the case from the front.

Sounds like the MB may have problems supplying enough power to the video card. Have you tried the cards in another system?

I got a 431 watt Enermax with 20 amps on the 12 V thingy.

It was working fine for about a week before this happened.

I didn't try to test on other systems, because I sold'em all on AT ( and i was glad when i did, but now i could use an extra one ). I looked up my local Compusa so i could go and get one and return it to solve my problem, but their choice was horrible (as usual). So this is why i am posting this.

So i think it's the mobo.

I ran a BFG 6800GT with an Enermax 430W power supply. Multiple HD's and system overclocked and no issues. That said, unless your PS is bad (defective) it's not the PS causing the problem. Does a 6800NU have a power lead to the card? If so have you put the video card on it's own power lead (not shared with other devices)? I know that sounds hokey but all of the vid card manf's recommend it.
