What is this stepping? generally good for when everything is in order (RAM/Cooling, etc)?

The fan/heatsink that came with this CPU is huge and heavy compared with the P4/Coolermaster that was in my Compaq.

I also have some Arctic Silver 5...how do I remove the stock paste?

Good stepping. A lot of ppl have gotten to 3GHz.

Just use some alcohol and wipe off the existing stock paste.

Yes indeed you have a proven winner on your hands.

The AMD Heatpipe that comes with that is pretty good but will limit you as you begin approaching 3Ghz

ACETONE.. Alcohol is for after cleaning. ACETONE will take grease off better.
