I just recieved a new AthlonXP 2000+ and installed it into my computer. The system would power, but i would get no boot, and the diagnostic lights on my motherboard indicate non functioning CPU. I have a MSI K7 Master motherboard, and have it flashed with the latest bios to support the 2000+ and greater cpus. I also tried the 2000+ in another motherboard, the K7T266-Pro2-A and it too gave me the diag lights indicating bad cpu. I inspected the chip and i did not physically damage it during installation. There are no signs of it "burning" or frying out. Is there anything else that i may have done that could have damaged it. Everything was installed properly, including the HSF. Thanks

Does the power supply have ample power for the 2000+? At least 180W+ on the 3.3V + 5V lines combined? If so, and the systems work with other CPUs, then it does sound like a bad 'un. RMA time! :(

I really don't think the Master can handle the Athlon XP's. If I remember correctely some of them had problems running with the new cores, but that was a long time ago and many bioses before.

A BIOS update may be needed, but my old K7 Master is running a 1600+ right now, so it can do it just fine.
