My friend just told me we are getting an $800-1000 stimulus check wtf? Where is the news coverage on this?

Considering the last one was simply a glorified cash advance, I would honestly be genuinely surprised if the government actually DID give the people free money.

Basically, unless you're an AIG exec or someone similar very little (to none) of these gigantic trillion dollar stimulus packages will ever directly benefit your wallet.

Indirectly through keeping your job.. maybe.

you need to edit your original post and make a comment about your girlfriend.

You do it in every other thread, why not this one?

Basically, an 819 billion dollar stimulus plan has passed the in the house and has moved on to the senate. Part of the plan includes a $500 tax credit ($1000 for couples) for low and middle-income citizens. There are some other tax credits/cuts included in that end of the bill, but the majority (about 2/3s) of the $819 billion is going to spending (or pork depending on your political views/level of partisan mouth-frothing).

So, no, you don't have a check coming; yes your friend is a tard; yes, you're a tard for not realizing all of this is going on or even bothering to turn on a radio, television, pick up a newspaper or go to a news site to read about it; no all of the money doesn't go to AIG execs, etc, etc

Sure, this time around. But shit, the damage has already been done. TARP has no accountability so there is no way to know for sure just how much of it is being wasted, but with AIG as a glaringly obvious example I don't hold a ton of weight to their decision making process.

instead of a cashable check, how about just shopping credit like what they did in Taiwan so that ppl actually have to spend it?

Hey, I totally agree with you about the banking bailout being a total clusterfuck in regards to accountability. I don't harbor any illusions that every cent of this spending plan will go where it's supposed to, either. I just thought maybe you were one of those loonies who thinks it's all a big conspiracy...actually one of them has already posted in this thread! :p

I knew about the $819 B bailout, and knew about the tax credit. My friend (who is a tard), said we were getting a check for higher amount than I had heard about from that stimulus bill. If they are referring to that, then yes they most certainly are stupid and ignorant for not reading more into it. I was simply asking a question if there was something in addition to the $819 B package.

Thanks for making assumptions that I didn't know what's in that stimulus package though.

Sorry for making assumptions about you not knowing what's in the stimulus package. I guess I'll just make assumptions about your ability to put 2+2 together as to what your tard friend was talking about.

$500 ($1000 for couples) tax rebate != $800-$1000 check IMO

Tax rebate means it's part of my 2008 tax return. Stimulus check means I get mailed a check for $800-$1000. Also the check last year was it's own bill, not part of a package so I assumed they were talking about a seperate bill (as it was done previously).

I bow to your supreme intellect.

1. Single = $500 tax credit
2. Couple = $1000 tax credit
3. You will see some extra padding on your paycheck, your company is going to withhold less out of your paycheck (assumed the first tax withhold quarter of 09)

well californians will be getting our state tax refund uber late if at all.

In all honestly, i dont hold much hopes for our government shedding any cash to us for a while now.

They will likely be issuing new federal withholding tables so accounting departments can adjust the federal tax withholdings on your paycheck, so expect to see a few more dollars on your paychecks after the bill is signed, and your accounting department has time to readjust withholdings. Your tax return for 2009 will likely be a bit higher as well since the withholding tables werent in effect the full year.
