i was applying for an AMEX Blue Cash card. submitted my application..

waited a minute or two.

afterwards, it said something to the effect "We're sorry, our system isnt responding. we'll send you something in the mail in a few weeks regarding your application."

i know in general, that means i was turned down. but could it possibly mean that the system really isnt responding so it has no way in checking the information i submitted. i did pick a bad time to apply for it late at night. i'm wondering if it could be daily maintenance or something.

ideas?

Nope, Amex does that with certain applications. The last two cards I've gotten from them I was approved and both were like this... I had to wait two weeks before finding out if I was approved.

hard to say, they probably documented your application and will review it later, their system is probably updating/down for a short time

btw i just burned my amex blue card, running myself into debt, it was sad to see that pretty card melt into oblivion...whenever i use it the cashier always has to comment on how cool it looks :)

in general, that means in a week or 2, you get your card.

and you did actually pick the wrong time to use amex's site.

The last card I signed up for (AAA 5% gas rebate card) said in the application you get an instant answer. I called, answered all the questions, and the lady asked if I wanted an answer right now. When I said yes, she transferred me to another extension and I got a recording like you got. Then a couple weeks later the card showed up in the mail.

Nope, that doesnt mean you got declined. I got the exact same message a few months ago when I was applying for their Amex Blue Cash card (I already had the Amex Blue). I just took it that I was declined when I got that message so I didnt really check the mail. Low and Behold, a couple weeks in the mail was my brand new AMEX blue cash card, with a hardy limit, almost twice what I had on my amex blue. :)

What type of credit history do you guys have to be applying for AmEx cards. Isn't AmEx the leetness of the CC world? I'm almost afriad to ask them with a mere 4 year A++ credit history.

is it? i thought blue was more of a basic type credit card. i always had the idea that the sears card was one of the hardest cards to apply for, at least for store cards.

Amex is not the Elite of credit cards. It's not that difficult to qualify for but I was turned down.

Then I was approved a year later for an Amex Platinum Cash Rebate CostCo card.

dakata24 - Don't get your hopes so high because in my experience. 99% of the time if you do not receive an instant APPROVAL. You will receive a letter in 2 weeks notifying you of their DECLINE or asking for more information/clarification.

I dunno...Amex always seemed to be the elusive one for me....i haven't applied for one yet....although now they're starting to send me pre-approval notices...i think I'll wait though.

i know. :) im basically writing it off as a decline. i'll find out in 2 weeks. and if it is indeed a decline, ill probably wait abit more since that will be 2 credit inquiries in the past month (other was when i signed up with SprintPCS).

Yeah I would just write it off as a decline, if it isn't you'll be surprised.
