for $180, I got
1) one used exhaust header
2) gasket,
3) replacement work
4) no anal lube

I checked online, both 1) and 2) combined cost (plus shipping) would be near 90 bucks. so I pretty much 90 bucks for the job. Did I get raped hardcore DP or just a mild fondling?

if you didn't know how to do it yourself, then no, you paid to have the job done right

Depending on the car that is a very fair price. Don;t like it then learn how to work on cars and buy the many, $$$, tools needed to work on cars

Not even first base where car repairs are concerned.

Figure labor runs 35-45 an hour, the price sounds basically fair if it includes parts.

well, I have the tools and online resource on how to do it, I even have the Toyota Repair manual too. But I lack the most important element, experience.
$90 bucks was an marginally acceptable price, but I would like to know was it overpriced or could it been done cheaper elsewhere.
(actually, the mechanic was quite smart and I was doped. He first said $200 buck for the job, but then I hesitated and his offered $180 instead, and I jumped on it. Had he said $180 in the beginning and stick with it, I would probably walk away.

oh whao? that was a fair price. okay, thanks guys.

well, my logic was, it took him an hour to do the whole swap.

it took him (the same mechanic btw) 45 minutes to do a brake pad job, and about the same time to replace the shaft with CV boot. Both of the jobs charge me 20-40 bucks for labor. So consider and compare ONLY the time he put in, I thought 90 bucks a bit too much. granted, all I see in my perspective is that he just took the old manifold/header out and put the new used one in.

Sounds fair to me, Of course I have to take a bunch of crap off to get to my headers. My intake manifold shares studs with the exhaust.

the exhaust is by itself, 5 bolts to the block on top , and 3 on the bottom to the pipe. and then there's a heat shield on top.

That sounds like a very fair price, on many cars replacing the exhaust manifold is a huge nightmare.

isn't this like asking if you got raped by a PC repair shop?

basically, if you can do it, do it. if not pay someone to do it for you.

sure, you can shop, but assuming that anyone that charges you something is raping you is just stupid.

be a smart buyer and quit b1tching.
