i just took a closer look at the northbridge on my a7n8x and noticed something that might explain why I can't get 400fsb

what my chipset looks like: nf2 northbridge

what an nf2 ultra 400 should look like: nf2 ultra 400 chipset

the box destinctively says nf2 ultra 400 on it
it also says fsb 400 ready

the thing won't even hold 185fsb (370mhz dual pumped) fully stable at any mem timings/voltages

I think I might just take this board back

what do you all think ????

As I said in one of your other posts, if it won't do 200fsb I'd take it back regardless of anything else.

alright i'm packing it back up in the box now

the question now is what board to replace it with

this is two boards i've replaced

i've heard that the latest nf2 ultra boards from
abit, epox, and leadtek are good for overclocking

dfi and asus didn't work for me

can anyone recommend a good board that hits 220 outta the box like i keep hearing they do???

Yes, the NF7-S v2.0 has the Crush 18D chipset and supports a 400MHz FSB.

Are you using a 266mhz processor or 333? If it's any of the 333mhz processors you need to cut the L12 bridge on it. Everyone is limited at about 180-185 before they cut it.

I'm using an unmodded 2500+ and an A7N8X Deluxe Rev 1.04 and I'm running at 220FSB. Dunno what roadblock you're hitting.

I do not think I ever asked this in your other thread, but are you sure your CPU is not @ it's max? As you well know, there is no such thing as a guaranteed OC. Your CPU just might be incapable of coming close to 200FSB.

Maybe Shimmishim would be willing to test it for you :).

Sounds like you may want to take it back, I just hit a rock steady 2.13 mhz and 202 fsb (A7N8X w/400 sticker and 2500+) I have not touched any of the voltages just multi and fsb. It also still has the stock hs&f, maybe I'll have to break out the Aero 7+,.... and maybe not ;-) So to answer the question you asked this morning
"does yours do 200mhz fsb ?" No and yes,... it will not go at 200 for some reason, but 199 or 202 is fine.

geez i wish i had read that before buying
and i wish i had learned something when i saw 10 returned a7n8x boards at fry's

I have a rev 1.04 asus and by using my friend's corsair xms 3200, I had no trouble at all reaching the 200 fsb. I am very satisfied with this board. I am considering trying to get a rev 2.0....I'm not sure if its worth it since this one is flawless already.

On which board? Certainly not the Soltek or Shuttle NF2 boards I can assure you.

i got the rev 2.0

also i am sure it isn't my cpu cause i lowered it's clock frequency as low as i could get it
also i havn't cut the bridge, but i wouldn't think i would have to
this board reminds me of my asus a7v original
my 3dmark scores on my old kt133 chipset were higher at equal clock
this blows

Everyone who buys equipment from Asus gets cheated. AFter all, they are headquartered in hell, and run by the devil.
