Did I get a returned product?

Hello. I just purchased the Soyo 24" LCD, but am paranoid that I might've gotten someone else's return!

First, the LCD itself was not wrapped. Instead, the plastic covering was just bunched up in the box. Second, I notice some smudges/minor scratches on the LCD, as well as what looks like finger print smudges on the right side of the panel. The panel itself doesn't seem to have any problems. There is only 1 "weird" pixel (I think) near the bottom right, but its basically not noticable. Also there are no strange humming or anything like that.

Based on this, do you guys think I got someone's return?

Yes, absolutely you did. Someone no-doubt RMA'ed it after experiencing a little buyers remorse.

Problem is that you have no way of doing anything about it, short of claiming that which you cannot prove. So you either live with it, or pay your restocking fee and RMA it.

Hmmm...I bought it from a B&M store. Do they charge restocking fees for exchanges within a 14-day period? Anyway, I'm still contemplating whether or not to exchange...there aren't any serious issues I see so far...except for a "perceived" pin-cushion effect by the screen...maybe my mind's playing tricks on me? Hmmm...

Normally you can return/exchange any technology product within 14 days without any restocking fees (OfficeMax, right...?)

But if the monitor is working fine, you just might want to keep it.

Yeah I think I'm gonna go exchange it now (yes, B&M OfficeMax store :p ). Also I just noticed some scratches (in addition to the smudges) on the screen panel itself, which has now rendered this LCD unacceptable. Blech. I have such bad luck. :(

I went through 3 of these LCDs at Officemax, trying to get one without the faint buzzing sound. I gave up after my third try - all 3 LCDs were otherwise fine except for the slight sound. I would have gladly taken a previously opened one, as long as it didn't have the buzzing sound...

No buzzing on the two of these I've had in the past twelve days (not that I use the monitor speakers, though)...but the first one died after three days.

(I just really, really wish Soyo had come up with a better, or at least heavier, stand design.)

I've gone through 3 as well, though not for the buzzing sound, but for stuck pixels. The first had a small, barely noticeable, streak of stuck pixels (they looked like a tiny hair). The second only had one stuck pixel, but it was bright red and in the middle of the screen. The third, knock on wood, doesn't have any.

All three came with proper wrapping, etc., but had small smudges on the screen. My take is that fingers were probably on the screen during packaging at the very least. Still, it may be that all were returned models.

Then again, I bought from OfficeMax and they said they would just be sending the panels I returned back. Now whether or not they're checked and then resent to the stores, I can't say.

Thusfar I've been really happy with the size and resolution of the display, but Soyo does seem to have quality control issues.

I certainly hope I don't experience the unit going dead!

Unlucky there. Between the 3 LCDs I saw, and one that my friend bought, not a single dead pixel - just the faint power transformaer buzz, which I can't hear when its next to my computer.
