Did I fry my ASUS Geforce 3?

I popped in my new V8200 ASUS Geforce 3 Deluxe card (after uninstalling old video drivers and setting video driver to Standard VGA Display Adapter). Then I reboot, get into Windows 98SE, load the latest 12.41 WHQL reference driver and restart. Now when machine first turns on, I get colored vertical bars and other weird artifacts right off the bat. Can't even see the POST. This makes me think something else in card went since it never got into Windows that second time to even load the ref driver.

I tried every setting in my BIOS to no avail. Is it possible that the reference NVIDIA driver hosed my card? I tried it in my other rig (PII-350) and it does the same thing. Only on the second machine, I never saw good video. Only the very first boot in my newer rig.

My newer machine,

ABIT KT7 RAID, beta BIOS ZTB01
2 IBM 45.6 GB drives in RAID 0 on HPT370 BIOS 1.03
3com NIC
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

Thanks,
Cal

The only time I ever saw something like that was when I forgot to remove an overclocking utility for my TNT1 before I installed my Geforce. The overclocking utility was set to initiate on start-up and was not part of the origional driver set, so it was'nt removed with the old drivers.
You hopefully have a full warranty with that G3 I hope?:D

Well I do have a warranty, I bought it from a reputable company that I have bought from before.

The only thing i had was coolbits, but like I said, it is hosed the moment that computer is turned on, before it gets to windows registry. Besides I had a geforce ddr before this and the max setting for that wouldn't be enough to hose my geforce 3.

I do wonder though if the reference driver is the cause of this, why would the card work the first time and then after rebooting after installing the 12.41 drivers, would it not work again?

Makes me think I did something wrong. Any ideas anyone?

Time for warranty if it won't work in either machine. These things happen, but usually only to me:(

No, I cannot get it to run with standard vga adapter setting in windows. It won't even work right on POST right after turning on. That leads me to believe it is hosed. And these things ALWAYS happen to me. LOL. I never get anything to work right out of the box.

I just rebuilt my box this weekend throwing in 2 new hard drives, a new mobo, new cpu and a V8200 Deluxe. I initially started w/ the 7.97 drivers and had no problems, but the GF3 features and DX8 stuff isn't there so I jumped to the 12.41 drivers which worked fine. Since they are WHQL certified the coolbits reg is ignored and you can't get that panel to appear so I doubt it's that problem. Then I jumped to the 12.60 drivers which have also worked fine. So in short what I'm saying as at least on my system the 12.41s didn't fry anything, so your V8200 Deluxe was prolly DOA or close to it.
