Did I do the right thing ?

Hi guys,
I am new here. First let me tell you this is an amaizing forum.
Now comming to my question.... I recently went to our tech. market to buy a digital camera with a budget of 8-9K. I had a choice of a Nikon CoolPix 4600 and a Canon PowerShot A420. Though the Nikon was smaller and cute looking (It had also some extra features) I went for the Canon at RS. 7800/- ( Free Uniross cahrger+batteries) as in this forum Canon seems to be the common choice. Did I do the right thing ?

'Tis a puzzlement. With 8-9K to spend, why a point and shoot camera? Either one would be good, but why not a digital SLR and grow with it? Just curious.

I am on my 8th digicam since 1996. Onward and upward! (Olympus D320L, Olympus D340Z, Olympus C2000Z, Olympus C3030Z, Canon D60, Canon 20D, and now Canon 5D) You chose a good camera - and so was the other one. Once you get into SLRs, your choices are then dictated by your lens collection. 🙂

The answer is a confused, qualified "yes!"

Question - was your budget $8,000 to $9,000? That is what is causing the raised eyebrows. 🙂 (8-9k)

India monies corkyg.

OP, features & fit is top priority. My hands are old & stiff, so a Canon G-6 had the fit for
my meat hooks(hands). 😉

For DSLR don't overlook Fuji as plenty of used Nikon glass mounts to her body.

Check his profile. Not $ USD.

Cognitive Dissonance.

Based on what you told us, you made the right decision.

Not suggesting you leave here by any means, but forums at Steve's Digicams will have some very camera specific detail on using it daily. Canon forum at Steve's
