Did i buy a dead 2500+ ?

Just bought a 2500+ off of a different forum.
CPU wasnt packaged to well but still looked ok but a brown spot was underneath
Put it in the mobo(SY-KT600 DRAGON PLUS V1.0) brand new
Applied Arctic Silver Ceramique and put the Hsf on.

FSB was set at 166 so i jsut left it as is and tried to fire up the pc but i would jsut get a blank screen and a few "ticks" cant tell where its coming from but it goes "tick tick, tick tick"

So i cleared the Cmos by using the jumpers and tried again

Same deal.

So i dropped the Fsb down to 133 and still the same deal.

Somebody please help me. O yea i also have a 256mb stick of Crucial pc2100 Cl 2.5
FYI i did not send the seller the money yet because he has lower heat than i do.

**Edit after replacing cpu everything was fine

Better not me dead coz ill be pissed. Ill have to send it back.

The ticks were coming from the cdroms. i unplugged them and it stopped.

Ill test the ram by switching it up.
IF that doesnt work ill throw in my old CPU.


I hope that guy doesnt give me any problems. He only has 2 heat to

theres a brown spot under neath the core between the pins. maybe a burn mark?
i took a pic of it with my new digi cam. once i figure out how to use it ill put it up if you guys want to see.

Every time I get a dead cpu, IT always feels REAL HOT, does yours feel real hot ?

i took the pic right out of the package

i then went ahead and starting to install it to see how it works. it didnt work so i put in my other processor and it worked fine

EDIT** nice pics of greece ill be there in a couple weeks taking pics with my new digi cam :D

that processor is DEFINATLY dead and that guy tried to screw you, don't even bother shipping it back to the guy because its a useless chunk of silicon anyhow.

its a beautiful country, where are you heading to?

well im going to poland first to meet up with my cousin and from there we're taking a bus to i think he said Olympic Beach? We're going to spend a day in Belgrade to for a break and then 10 days in greece.
Ill also visit go visit Athens and other famous sites to but my hotel will be in olympic beach.
Things will probably be expensive though due to the olympics.

think i can gett tickets for a basketball game or soemthing?

heh,i dunno much about Athens, i didn't stay there long and my relatives took care of everything :)

we stay on a small island off the west coast. the traffic situation in athens is pretty terrible,if you want to get anywhere you have to give yourself lots of time or rent some type of small motorbike. eitherway your very far from athens,a full days drive or a long ferry ride, you are however close to Thessaloniki which has plenty to see.

if you can,go see the recently finished olympic stadium, seeing it on TV doesn't do it justice. or jump on a daily ferry and go see some of the local major islands. there are TONS of islands on that side of greece in the aegean.

yea i didnt pay. i tried contacting the guy but he hasnt responded yet. if he still wants it ill ship it back to him, i wont be paying though because it doesnt work.

any way to fix it ? i doubt it but it's worth a shot.
the guy gave me a great deal on the chip it'll be tough to find one for that price again.
