Did Ford just rename the 500 the Taurus? also, no more CVT?

Yep. They were already planning on putting a bigger engine into the Ford 500 since the earlier models were underpowered, and then they decided to bring back the Taurus brand name since it is so well recognized.

Yes they did they also renamed the Freestyle to the Taurus X with a bigger engine...of course they do this after I purchase my Freestyle 🙁.

Taurus was a good brand name for the Ford one of their best selling cars for years, it was really foolish of them to retire the name.

QFT. ford buyers fear change. i don't know what they were thinking... they even KNEW that buyers would fear change, because they continued to sell the 500 and old taurus side-by-side... should have just called the 500 the taurus from the start and saved everyone the confusion.

They should have changed the name to Crown Victoria, IMO.

Taurus' image is too tarnished to resurrect.

I guess 'Pinto' would not be very high on the list of possible names, is it??? 😀

the cars do have a lot in common though...

interesting strategy on their part tho, because the fusion is the car that really replaced the taurus as far as price and size, the new taurus (500) really is more in the league of the crown vic, not quite as big (but very very large).

i really liked the 500 with the 3.0, i think i'd like it even better with the 3.5.

It's so funny how we attribute emotional responses to car names.. especially when they can just take any car and give it a name that'll make people happy. I mean come on.. the Taurus-X? Who's buying that name change?
