Trying to figure out if the kid's GF bought a fake.

I can't seem to find one on Nvidia's or EVGA's sites.
Did they at some point use 1080 boards with the 1060 chip in it? Or am I remembering a different generation?

Post a picture of the potentially-fake card's cooler, from the fan side (may not be visible once installed, as the fan faces down). The "fakes" can usually be spotted by their coolers.

Also, download and use GPU-Z (from TechPowerUp), and post a screenshot of that app with the specs. That's another way to tell fakes.

I would but it is quite a tense, situation, with my son's GF and well my family. I dropped a psu tester off and a 24p switch to test if PSU is good. He was waiting outside and sat in passenger seat with a PSU her dad had brought over.

Needless to say, the above link looks like the cooler in the picture I was sent, the knock off one he was talking about, if I find out I will link a picture.

I think this may be it.
Strange that the recommended PSU is only 400 watts, but the connector is 8 pin.
