Alright, I've done a search for this story here, and didnt find any references..

So, I'm very curious as to what the rest of you think of Edwards' chances at becoming President after p*ssing off the entire Christian base in this country.

O'Reilly broke this story last week, but it took on a life of its own throughout the entire blogosphere.

At first, Edwards defended the two hand-picked staffers, but this week, after The Factor aired their dirty blog laundry, Edwards proceeded to fire both of them. the first one was fired within minutes of The Factor breaking the story, but, Edwards was well aware of the ladies and their blogging history. He acknowledged it in the past, but refused to take action against them.... WHY?!? That just makes no sense whatsoever.

McEwen and Marcotte highlight reel!

NYT 2/7/07: Edwards campaign in 'hot water' over bloggers on payroll

Edwards statement made 2/8/07 defending the ladies...giving them a "fair shake":
The tone and the sentiment of some of Amanda Marcotte's and Melissa McEwan's posts personally offended me. It's not how I talk to people, and it's not how I expect the people who work for me to talk to people. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that kind of intolerant language will not be permitted from anyone on my campaign, whether it's intended as satire, humor, or anything else. But I also believe in giving everyone a fair shake. I've talked to Amanda and Melissa; they have both assured me that it was never their intention to malign anyone's faith, and I take them at their word. We're beginning a great debate about the future of our country, and we can't let it be hijacked. It will take discipline, focus, and courage to build the America we believe in.

Quick Summary of Events

That said, well, Edwards finally fired both of them this week.. or they quit... then he rehired them... then they resigned... or something like that..!?!??!

1) Do you think Edwards can recover from this, or will it ruin his campaign?

2) What on earth possessed Edwards to hire such militant feminist filth? Are the lunatic-fringe far-left voters really THAT important for Democrats?

FYI: I am NOT a Christian.

Oh don't worry--I'm sure that pool drain company he sued (and won against) will come back with a smear of their own ("how DARE you insist that we prevent our product from sucking people down the drain")

Is anyone going to address the two questions I asked, or will Dave and Co. turn this into another useless bashfest?

1) Do you think Edwards can recover from this, or will it ruin his campaign?

2) What on earth possessed Edwards to hire such militant feminist filth? Are the lunatic-fringe far-left voters really THAT important for Democrats? Why? How many are there?

I personally dont think that there is any reasonable excuse to defend those bigots, and I cannot figure out WTF Edwards was thinking when he found out and decided to keep them around. I would have fired them on the spot... the fact that he didnt is kinda...odd. Perhaps if somebody answers my second question above, I'll understand his motivations a little better.... maybe.. unless Dave craps all over the thread instead.

Awwwwwww Bigots are bigots no matter what side

Hate is hate. Republicans hate Gays so what makes Edwards gorls any different?

What's the matter, don't like that Dems have learned well from your brood?

Its a matter of Edward's judgment. If you haven't actually read the remarks these official Edwards bloggers wrote, go read them for yourselves and tell me Edwards should not have canned them. If you think he should not have, then you too have poor judgment. I guess Edwards thinks the Christian haters will turn out in droves in the polling places next year?

Oh my gosh! These woman should be jailed for using their free speech rights!!!!! The quivering lip Catholics - always wanting to quiet other voices, except for their own.....

As for Edwards, I'm sure we'll see him again on the political scene - just not right as he's still carrying the baggage of the loss of the last election......

Uhm, right... And Edwards believed that? Again, poor judgment.

Is he running for President or Judge?

His "Judgement" is already worse than your hero Bush???

how does anyone who says anything negative about a Democrat automatically become a "Bush-lover", "Bushwhacko", or "Bushite"?

Is there a physical transformation that takes place, or are they visibly marked in some way?

Please stop crapping on this thread Dave, and try, just try, to address the two questions in the OP.

Barak Obama's argument is that judgment is more important than experience when running for president, i agree with that. Edwards is lacking, that's all I'm saying. Have a cookie.

You've quoted this link in your first post - are you reading what you're posting first, or are you just wanting to play the role of weepy eyed victim today?

How dare they use free speech, how dare they.
Ok, would you say the same if the Mccain campaign hired two out-spoken KKK bloggers?

just curious...

Why are race-bashing and sex-bashing horrible, but religion-bashing is ok?

I was re-posting the link in case someone didnt understand the "highlight reel" reference in the OP...

I'm just encouraging discussion on the topic... nothing more. You can take that "weepy-eyed victim" crap elsewhere...

You rightwingers would like to conduct this discussion based on the dirty comments these girls made on their personal blogs. And you want us to read it over and over again for the gross factor. But there is more to it than that. Problem is, we know the blogs are in bad taste (more to the point, definitely gross) for that there is no question. BUT These girls can say ALOT of gross stuff on their personal blogs because their rights to freedom of speech.

What I think you want to hear PH is that we are appalled over the comments and JE should have fired them on the spot. But that would be wrong. Is JE's judgement poor on this issue? I dont think so. I think by not firing them he displayed tolerance for these girls views, something alot of americans can use a refresher course on. By allowing these girls to continue JE's camp made a calculated gamble in staying within reach of Hillary and Obama, and since it is early in the election season I think you will see this has no long term impact. Also, by the girls resigning JE is off the hook, and I THINK that is what the girls did, but it is still unclear.

The issue isn't around how foul mouth these girls are (and so goes JE by association,) the issue is how deftly the JE camp is able handle it. If JE would have fired them on the spot there is a possibility you would hear nothing but howls of protest by the wingnuts over how intolerant JE is. You know that is true and I am sure the JE camp weighed the pros and cons.

Actually, you're missing the point. I'll repeat the following, and I want you to answer it honestly:

What if the two women were blogging against gays or blacks? What if their "personal views" expressed using their freedoms of speech were racist, rather than Christian-hating? Should Edwards still have kept them on? Would he still be seen as "tolerant," or just stupid?

In other words, why do you consider it OK for people to be Christian-haters, but not racists?

I call that hypocrisy, with each form of hatred being just as disgusting as the other. Thus, Edwards' decision to keep them around, even after learning of their hatred, was a very poor one.

I do not believe that anyone should ever "tolerate" hatred, in any form.

I can't wait to see your response.

dont be so quick to judge. And I would be careful about throwing the term "hypocrisy" around considering the group you side with.

If the blogs were racist in nature I doubt the girls would have been anywhere near a presidential campaign to begin with. Bottom line is that the gals resigned. If I was in JE's shoes I would have forced them to both resign, thereby not running the risk of looking intolerant to anothers personal views.

"In other words, why do you consider it OK for people to be Christian-haters, but not racists?"

I never made that ASSertion you did.

Is dmcowen always such a loser?

For our resident idiot, there is this rule of consequences for your actions. No one is denying their right to free speech, bigoted or not. What is happening is that people are holding them accountable for what they said. Working for someone who has a very high profile means that your public actions can reflect on them if it is known you are associated.

Edwards blew it the day he opened his mouth. His two America's are, him and his 28,000 square foot home , and then the other America are the people who maintain it for him.
