Did Dell changed the way they package their LCDs or they shipped me a refurbished LCD

Has anyone here gotten a replacement LCD from Dell before? Earlier today, I got my replacement U2410 from Dell and the packaging is making me very suspicious right now. Normally Dell use styrofoams in their packaging. It's used to protect and support the LCD inside the box. The replacement U2410 that I got was not protected by styrofoams. Instead, the LCD is inside a bag and is supported and protected by cardboard. Is this Dell's new method of shipping out LCDs or I got a refurbished LCD even though Dell promised that I'll get a new one?

P.S: I don't need anyone here telling me what Dell's official policy is. What I need are comments from people that have actually gotten a replacement LCD or have received a new Dell LCD in the last couple of days. Otherwise, I'm just dealing with assumptions and speculations, which is definitely not needed at this point in time.

Thx!

Why not call and ask them directly? I understand what your saying about oem packaging and I concur that I've never seen a lcd shipped that wasn't in a styrofoam shell.

It's probably a refurb but I don't think anything is wrong with that - you still got the same warranty and service.

The video is from 2009 though. I ordered my U2410s about 3 weeks ago. The two that originally came with my initial order had Styrofoams. It's the replacement that doesn't. I'm not sure if I get your message here.

Read his comment. "unboxing a retail purchased u2410...."

Why would he lie that the one he is unboxing...wrapped in cardboard, not foam as being a retail box?

Yea I did and it does answer my question. However, I'm a bit perplexed on why Dell ships some LCDs with styrofoams and some with just cardboard. Weird, but I guess I don't have to freak out anymore.

Buy another one, and find out. That means you end up with three and some sweet Eyefinity-goodness 😉

The three P2310H's I recently bought all came in styrofoam ( I learned a new word today 😛 ).

I got a U2410 a couple of weeks ago and asked for a replacement. Both were packed identically, in polystyrene shells.

I ordered 3 screens from Dell and two of them came packed in dead oompa loompas. The third oompa loompa was alive.

Alright, here's another update on this matter. The replacement LCD that I got is indeed refurbished or maybe it was used and returned by another person.

After installing it and checking the screen, I notice a fingerprint and some smudges. There were also dead pixels. I checked the service menu and I notice it's already been used for over 8 hours. I called Dell to complain, telling them that it was irresponsible for them to do something like this given the fact that I first called them for a replacement 2 weeks after I ordered it. They shouldn't have sent me a refurbished. This would be a different story if it was 1 month after I ordered it. Anyways, I was given assurances that I will indeed get a new one, but the experience so far has kind of left a bitter taste in my mouth. The refurbished unit that I got is even worse than the one that I'm trying to replace. I told them that if they can't get this right, I'll demand a refund. The rep told me he understands my concerns and frustration, told me he'll check up on me sometime next week and we'll move on from there. I guess I don't have a choice now.

In all honesty, it sounds like a mix-up. They send a refurb instead of a new one I suppose. Hopefully they will act quickly and to your satisfaction.

Mix-up's happen. It sucks, but it's not exactly the end of the world, I bet you make mistakes too once in a while. It be a different case if Dell wouldn't fix it ...
