Did CPU speed increases slow down?

Yeah, my CPU was running at 2.0237 GHz but now it's down to 2.0 GHz.

Once upon a time there were these people called engineers that did stuff, like send people to the Moon, invent microwave popcorn, etc.

then people discovered that inventing stuff was hard, it's easier to look stuff up on Google.
