Did Apple ever fix low sound issue in BC?

Oyeve

Lifer
Did the bootcamp crap long ago on my 15" MBP, low sound in XP. Everyone knows.

Has apple done anything about this? I havent checked in months and dont feel like googling and geting the same old sites hearing "we will just wait for Steve to patch".

Is this over the internal speakers, or through the headphone jack?

I always noticed that the internal speaker volume was louder in Windows over OS X.

Both actually. The sound in bootcamp XP is very low. Its been a problem/issue for quite some time. BC 3.1 didnt fix it and the only way I can get decent sound is to use VLC and boost the sw sound and use headphones.

Which model MBP was this and are you sure you had the correct drivers?

Have you tested with any OS other than XP?

Late '09 A1286. Yep, used BC 3.0, upgraded to 3.1 when is was released a while ago. Havent tried any 3rd party drivers or such. Just using stock stuff on xp pro. Havent tried any other os other than 10.6.4 and xp pro.

The Mac OS shouldn't matter, but with computers, some times it is what shouldn't matter that actually causes the problem.

Honestly, I no longer have a intel Mac to test with, so I will have to check with my roommate, see if his late '08 (original unibody) MBP has this problem in Windows.

He (the roommate) reports that the volume is about equally loud in both Windows (7 64bit) and OS X. And I recall that Windows XP Pro was louder in BootCamp than OS X, but this was early days of BootCamp.

When you double click on the Sound icon in XP, can you open the preferences and make sure that all available channels are selected? Then make sure all those volume levels are up?

I had this happen on a desktop PC I built a few years back and turned out it was a separate channel that had gotten turned down somehow.
